Jam Ignacio no-show at NBI hearing over alleged physical assault of Jellie Aw
Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of physical assault.
Jam Ignacio was a no-show at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) hearing in connection to the assault complaint filed by his fiancée, DJ Jellie Aw.
According to a report by The Philippine STAR, Ignacio's lawyer Oscar Karaan said he will face the case filed against him before the prosecutor's office. “We sent a letter to the NBI that he would no longer appear during the hearing,” he said.
"The NBI can just refer the matter to the appropriate fiscal’s office with jurisdiction over the case and then we’ll answer the case that will be filed against my client," he added, per an ABS-CBN News report.
Karaan disclosed that Ignacio has been trying his best to patch things up with Aw.
"My client, he is trying to mend with his girlfriend para sana ma-settle ito out of court or out of the fiscal’s office para hindi na humaba kasi pinagpipiyestahan sila sa social media," the lawyer said.
"Hindi naman kailangan umabot sa ganung sitwasyon dahil usapin ito na pwede naman nilang i-settle between themselves," he added.
Nevertheless, Karaan said Ignacio intends to face the complaint against him.
Aw took to her social media pages early morning of Feb. 12 to share photos of her swollen and bruised-up face after Ignacio allegedly beat her up.
Her sister Jo Aw detailed the incident, alleging that Ignacio did the beating in a locked car.
Aw was only able to ask for help when they were at a toll gate. She then got a medical checkup before filing a police report.
On Feb. 20, Ignacio broke his silence and apologized to Aw and her family, saying their “simple misunderstanding” turned into a bigger fight.
"Baka napuno lang din siguro ako na hindi ko sinasabi na tama, pero hindi ko para i-tolerate na gawin ulit,” he told GMA News.
Ignacio also insisted on pushing through with their wedding.
Aw previously said she’s open to forgiving Ignacio but would still want him to face the legal consequences.
Ignacio and Aw got engaged in November last year after four months of dating.
