Actress Jane de Leon channels the Filipina superhero Darna as the latest cover star of Metro Magazine.

The latest digital magazine shines the spotlight on the actress and her journey towards playing the title character in the upcoming TV series based on Mars Ravelo’s Pinoy classic comic book heroine. The Metro interview revealed that the new-age Darna actress bested over 300 other brave souls to bag the role.

The fashion shoot sees De Leon wearing all sorts of ensembles in the bright signature red color, from a full length gown to a striking bodysuit, poised to take flight like the iconic character.

On the main moving cover on Instagram, Jane sizzles in a strapless red dress with feather accents by Patty Ang. She also dons a strapless gown with a thigh-high slit by Michael Leyva and peep-toe platform heels by Giuseppe Zanotti as well as an embellished cropped top and flowy skirt by Joe San Antonio.

In Metro's full interview titled “Flying High: The Rise of Jane de Leon” the actress said she can sympathize with Narda and Darna, both as a human character and as the superhero counterpart, and believes that selflessness is her true superpower.

“Parehas kaming selfless. Inuuna namin lagi ’yung ibang tao bago po ’yung sarili namin. Mas inuuna namin ’yung mahal namin sa buhay. For me talaga, it’s all about love and sacrifices. Kasi parang general na [na] ahat, nandu’n na, e. Anyone can be a superhero, and you can be a superhero," she said.

De Leon also revealed what superpower she wished she could harness in real life, referring to X-Men's Shadowcat, who has the powers of phasing/intangibility, which she hopes to use for fangirling purposes as a member of the BTS' Army.

“Gusto ko ’yung superpower ni Shadowcat—’yung tumatagos and nakakalipad and invisible para nakaka-sneak in ako sa mga eroplano. Makakapunta ako sa concert ng BTS,” she told Metro in jest.

She also heaped high praise for all the women who portayed Darna before her, giving special mention to Angel Locsin, who was slated to revive the role in 2015 but had to drop out from the project for health reasons.

“Lahat po sila, magagaling. Lahat po sila, na-portray po talaga nang sobrang maayos si Darna, but siyempre, [ang] tumatak sa’kin at kinalakihan ko, si Angel Locsin,” said de Leon.

On the opportunity to take on the role, she said, “Maraming salamat po sa pagtitiwala sa’kin, kasi alam kong mahabang-mahabang panahon po ang hinintay n’yo, pero ito na po, ipapalabas na po at lilipad na po si Darna.”

Darna is set to premiere on Monday, August 15 on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, TV5, A2Z, iWantTFC, and Jeepney TV.
