Wil Dasovich looks back on accomplishments after life-threatening cancer: 'This is how I celebrated life'

Wil Dasovich expressed his gratitude for his second chance at life as he looked back on his accomplishments after surviving a life-threatening illness.

On his Instagram account, the content creator shared his inspiring journey to recovery from stage three colon cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 2017. He had to undergo nine cycles of chemotherapy at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.

"Five years ago, I was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. To inspire myself, I read stories about other cancer patients who went on to survive and become world-famous pro athletes," Wil captioned the video.

Some of the personalities who motivated him include baseball player Anthony Rizzo, football star James Conner, road racing cyclist Lance Armstrong, and baseball pitcher Jon Lester.

"I told myself in five years, I'll be just like them. I will survive and accomplish something great," Dasovich wrote.

And survive he did as he was officially declared cancer-free when he had his final scan completing remission a few months ago.

Wil then looked back at every accomplishment he did to celebrate life and his victory against cancer, such as climbing Mt. Apo, climbing the largest wall in the world, jumping the largest bungee jump in the world, skydiving, learning to ride a horse, and getting a scuba certification.

He also broke a freediving national record, won a filmmaking award, got a beach house, traveled to 15 countries, cut and donated his hair, and spent time with his 100-year-old grandmother.

"I did this all in the last year and that's how I celebrated another opportunity at life," Wil highlighted.

In the caption of his post, the YouTube vlogger took the time to give some inspiring lessons to his followers.

"There is a silver lining to the low points of life because it makes you realize if you can get through them, you can get through anything. Rather than hide from dark memories, I’ve learned to embrace them and use them as fuel to flourish when in a competitive atmosphere," he stressed.

"I hold on to painful recollections of the past which allow me to live with gratitude for the simplest things. Without going through the toughest challenges I would’ve never fully realized the superhuman capabilities I have," he added.

Wil ended his post by expressing his gratitude to everyone who has been supporting him throughout his darkest times.

"Thank you to everyone who’s been there throughout this journey, your prayers worked and we can close this chapter and continue to hit more milestones! Remember that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and tough times don’t last, but tough people do," Wil wrote.

The content creator rose to fame for his travel videos that feature different aspects of Filipino culture. He had been in a three-year relationship with Alodia Gosiengfiao before the Filipino cosplayer announced in 2021 that the two of them had put an end to their romance.
