Ellen Adarna explains why she’s covering her baby’s face in photos
Ellen Adarna replied to a social media user who asked why she’s covering her baby’s face in the pictures she’s posting on social media.
On Christmas Day, Dec. 25, the local star posted a family photo with her husband Derek Ramsay and their newborn Liana. Elias, her son with her ex-beau John Lloyd Cruz, is also in the love-filled snap.
In the comments section of her post, an Instagram user wrote, “Why cover the [baby’s] face?”
To which, Adarna replied, “To avoid evil eye.”
It’s a belief in some cultures and traditions that one must not show the face of their baby for a particular period of time to protect them from bad vibes or energy as they are sensitive to the evil eye. Others also shield their baby from negativity by putting a black dot behind the child’s ear or on their forehead and tying a black thread around the baby’s wrist or ankle.
Ramsay made a surprise announcement on Oct. 23 when he shared a photo of his wife in a hospital bed holding their little ray of sunshine, with Elias by their side.
In a press conference in December last year, Ramsay announced that Adarna suffered a miscarriage.
Last June, Adarna said she had quit smoking after 17 years and had her intrauterine device or IUD removed in hopes of having a baby.
The two tied the knot in November 2021. They first exchanged their vows in a mountain resort in Bagac in Bataan on Nov. 11 of that year. They got married again in a Peruvian despacho ceremony led by a local shaman during their anniversary.
Ramsay has a 21-year-old son with his former wife, model Mary Christine Jolly. Elias, meanwhile, is Adarna's son with Cruz, whom she has a co-parenting setup with.
