Theater couple Nyoy Volante, Mikkie Bradshaw join cast of PH production of 'Into the Woods'
Couple Nyoy Volante and Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante are starring in Into the Woods together.
On Feb. 7, Theatre Group Asia announced that the pair will play the Baker and the Baker's Wife in the Philippine production of the play.
"The musical power couple will take the stage together again, after first meeting each other when they starred together in Rock of Ages, and collaborating together in the local run of Kinky Boots," the collective said.
"This time, they're bringing their talents into the woods, where they seek to turn two into three!"
Nyoy and Mikkie join the star-studded cast for the local production which currently includes Lea Salonga as the Witch, Arielle Jacobs as Cinderella, Eugene Domingo as Jack's Mother, and Joaquin Pedro Valdes as Cinderella's Prince/Wolf.
In a statement, Mikkie said that the Baker's Wife is one of her dream roles. "I can't wait to breathe life into a character I've fantasized about playing for over a decade now," she said.
Meanwhile, Nyoy said he was excited about developing the Baker's character, "his resilience and bravery while overcoming insecurities and struggles."
"And just like all [Stephen] Sondheim's creations, the music of Into the Woods is fabulous and beautiful.
Mikke has appeared in Manila productions of The Sound of Music, Rock of Ages, Nine, and Aladdin.
Nyoy, on the other hand, was part of The Sandbox Collective's Little Shop of Horrors and Spelling Bee.
Produced by Theater Group Asia (TGA), Into the Woods will be held from Aug. 7 to 24 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati. It will have a limited engagement run of 18 performances.
