#FangirlGigs: Park Jinyoung rendezvous with fans in three-hour long concert in Manila

Saying goodbye even for a short while isn’t easy especially when you’re in the peak of your career. The same goes for Park Jinyoung, member of K-pop group GOT7 and star of hit K-dramas The Devil Judge and Yumi’s Cells.

The singer-actor, who's preparing for his military enlistment, gave his Filo Ahgases a special night as he performed songs from his latest album and bonded with them for three hours during his fan concert Rendezvous: Secret Meeting Between You and Me at the New Frontier Theater.

Going solo

Park Jinyoung returned to the Philippines after three years, but this time as a solo performer. He is the latest GOT7 member to release a debut solo album Chapter 0: WITH, as the members have been focusing on their solo careers for now.

Talking about the difference between performing solo and with GOT7, Jinyoung says that when he's performing solo, the preparation time is "short."

“Preparation time is short. Just 40 minutes. With the team, two hours and half. Too short. That is all (That is the only best thing). It is surely more enjoyable to be with the rest of the members but I feel lonely at times.”

However, Jinyoung was never actually alone as fans cheered and sang along with him all throughout his performances. He opened the show with his hits Coming Home and Cotton Candy, commanding the stage amid loud cheers from Filo Ahgases and even international fans from Taiwan and Thailand, who have waited long for him. Indeed he has come home.

Charming entertainer

Aside from his music career, Jinyoung has been making his mark with performances in K-dramas like The Devil Judge, Yumi’s Cells, and recently the film A Christmas Carol.

“I really learned a lot because I was with senior actors and actresses who taught me how to become a better actor. It was a very good learning experience for me,” he says.

Despite getting good responses for his acting work, Jinyoung maintains that he still has much to learn. He will be seen next in the K-drama The Witch.

Jinyoung’s humility and sincerity shines through as he connects with his fans, talking briefly to some lucky ones who were able to go on stage with him during the fan concert. It’s refreshing to see a Korean star joke openly with his fans, winning them over with his charms. He was generous not only with gifts but with the time and attention he showered his fans.

Last hurrah for now

The fan concert is sort of Jinyoung’s last hurrah for now as he is expected to perform his military duty this year. The performer made sure that he made the most of his time with his Filo Ahgases, performing all the songs from his debut solo album and more. Fans were also thrilled to see him perform a GOT7 medley.

The three-hour long fan concert was a fitting farewell (for now) for Jinyoung who promised to come back with the rest of the GOT7 members.

“I won’t be able to see you guys for a long time. Thank you so much for waiting for me. I hope this album and this fan concert that I’ve prepared with so much effort could be a driving force to look forward to the next time we meet again.”

It was truly a night to remember for a long time for his fans until Jinyoung returns.
