Boobay experiences health scare, becomes unresponsive during live interview in 'Fast Talk with Boy Abunda'

Boobay became unresponsive in the middle of his interview with Boy Abunda.

In the early part of the April 20 episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, comedian Norman Balbuena, popularly known as Boobay was recalling how his showbiz career started.

TV host Boy Abunda asked him how he felt when he was praised for his audition tape. However, Boobay didn’t utter words and instead kept nodding at Abunda.

Abunda initially thought that he was getting emotional, but quickly picked up that something was wrong. While asking if he was okay, the TV host immediately stood up and hugged Boobay, while sending a cue to the crew for assistance.

Abunda recalled the incident in the episode aired the following day.

“He started to be quiet, akala ko iiyak, akala ko he was getting emotional because he was remembering how he started. Pinapanood ko lang siya. After a few seconds, instinct e, sabi ko, ‘Something is wrong,’" he said to Dingdong Dantes, who's the guest for the episode.

"Kaya [tinanong ko siya] ‘Are you okay?’ Siguro mga dalawa, tatlong beses, I said ‘Are you okay?’ Nilapitan ko na. Kasi I instinctively felt that something was wrong. Niyakap ko. ‘Yung weight niya alam mong nakaganu’n (nakasandal) na sa ‘yo,” he recalled.

After the break, Boobay was seen in good shape, and shared that a similar incident happened to him during their taping for The Boobay and Tekla Show, which happened the day before his guesting in Boy Abunda’s talk show.

“Kahapon nagte-taping kami tapos bigla akong medyo nag-hang habang kami ay nagshu-shoot sa aming ‘The Boobay and Tekla Show.’ Siguro dahil sa ilaw din tapos at the same time siguro konti pa ‘yung tulog ko no’n na maling-maling ginawa ko,” he said.

“Sinabi naman ng doktor sa akin before na mangyayari talaga ‘yun after nung nangyari sa akin na na-hospital ako. After daw no’n, maaaring mag-hang daw ako,” he added. Boobay suffered from a mild stroke in November 2016.

“The best thing you can do is parang mag-stop ka lang until hayaan mong bumalik sa dati ‘yung pag-ikot mo,” he shared.

Despite the doctor’s advice to him to take a good rest, Boobay shared that his way of resting is performing. But Abunda reiterated that he really needs to take a rest.

“Naiintindihan ko rin na happy place mo ito, ‘pag nagpe-perform ka para kang nagpapahinga, dahil ‘yun talaga ang “safe place” ika nga ng marami sa ‘tin. But again, you have to take good care of yourself,” said the King of Talk.

Aside from his health, Boobay also talked about bagging the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in the film Broken Blooms, which is oneof the eight major awards the film won at the Saskatchewan International Film Festival (SIFF) in Canada.
