A Miss Teen USA pageant queen died in a car accident that took place just three minutes from her home. She was 18 years old.

Authorities confirmed to E! Online that Kadance Fredericksen, a candidate in Miss Florida Teen USA 2024, passed away after a vehicle crash in Florida.

According to the report from the entertainment outlet, her car collided head-on with a tractor-trailer in the afternoon of Feb. 17.

The beauty queen was declared dead at the scene, while the man in the other vehicle was left with minor injuries, per a Florida Highway Patrol crash report.

"We are still in the early stages of the investigation and ask that we all take a moment for this family as well as others who have lost a loved one to a traffic crash," authorities said in a statement.

In an interview with PEOPLE Magazine, her mom Lisa said she "was literally three minutes from home" when the tragic accident happened.

"I have no idea what happened," she added.

Fredericksen won Miss Okaloosa County Teen USA and became a delegate in Miss Florida Teen USA in 2024.

She was a high school student at Baker High School. According to her family, she had been accepted into nine universities and had hopes of becoming a veterinarian.
