Lee Sun Kyun passes away—police
South Korean actor Lee Sun Kyun has passed away. He was 48.
The Seoul Seongbuk Police Station on Dec. 27 reported that they had responded to a call from a woman who said her husband had left their home after writing what seemed to be a suicide note.
The police found his car on a street in Waryong Park in the Jongno district of Seoul. They then confirmed that the identity of the man was Lee Sun Gyun.
The authorities also noted that they had found evidence of lit charcoal briquettes inside his car.
Lee's agency HODU&U, reported by Naver, announced his passing writing, "We apologize for conveying the unfortunate news. Actor Lee Seon-gyun passed away on December 27th. There is no way to contain his sorrowful and devastated feelings. Please refrain from making false statements based on speculation or speculation so that the deceased's final journey will not be unfair."
“We respectfully ask you to refrain from spreading facts or making malicious reports based on them,” the agency wrote.
It added that a funeral will be held "quietly with the bereaved family and colleagues in attendance."
Previously, the Parasite actor was being investigated on suspicion of using marijuana and other illegal drugs.
In October, HODU&U released a statement regarding the issue.
"We sincerely apologize for causing concerns over reports about actor Lee Sun-kyun," the company stated as translated by Soompi.
"Our company is currently in the process of verifying the specific facts related to the allegations raised against Lee Sun Gyun. We are committed to cooperating fully with any investigations conducted by relevant authorities with utmost sincerity and honesty in the future,"it added.
According to the agency, Lee had already taken action on the matter after he filed a complaint against another person allegedly involved in the same group "for continuous blackmail and threats." The extortionist is said to have caused Lee to lose a significant amount of money.
"It is true that L provided a significant amount of money to the drug supplier while engaged in marijuana use. We estimate the amount to be around 300 million won (P12 million)," an official from the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency detailed.
