Armie Hammer addresses cannibalism allegations: 'It killed me, it killed my ego'

Armie Hammer has broken his silence over the cannibalism accusations against him that have hounded his career in the past three years.

The Call Me By Your Name actor admitted in an interview on the Painful Lessons podcast that the allegations have caused "an ego death, a career death," but he's grateful to have gone through them.

"People called me a cannibal, and everyone believed them. They're like, 'Yep, that guy ate people,'" he said. "Like what? What are you talking about? Do you know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people! How am I going to be a cannibal?! It was bizarre."

In 2021, the actor was accused of manipulating multiple women into sexual acts, with one of them alleging he was "100% a cannibal" and wished to "drink [her] blood."

Two years later in 2023, media outlets reported that Hammer wouldn't be facing sexual assault charges due to "insufficient evidence."

"Even in the discrepancies, in whatever it was that people said, whatever it was that happened, I'm now grateful for every single bit of it," Hammer said.

The actor added that he joined a 12-step program after the accusations.

"It's almost like a neutron bomb went off in my life. It killed me, it killed my ego, it killed all the people around me that I thought were my friends that weren't—all of those people, in a flash, went away," he continued.

With the mark the allegations made on his career, Hammer shared that he's making his "own sandbox" by working on a script with a friend.

In November 2023, the actor made his return to Instagram after previously scrubbing his other posts on the platform.
