Rhian Ramos in tears as she reveals she 'wanted to give up' on life due to showbiz intrigues
Rhian Ramos couldn't help but get emotional as she revealed that she almost "wanted to give up" on life after being involved in a lot of controversies in the past.
In her recent guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, the actress opened up about the lowest point in her life where she was targeted by many showbiz intrigues during the early part of her career.
"There were times na ang dami-dami-dami talagang intriga that was going around about me and I couldn't understand [why]. I think this was like the third or fourth year of my career. I was young, so I was so affected," Rhian said.
"People were starting to believe na nga na ako pa 'yung nagpapakalat para sumikat. They didn't know how difficult it was and I felt so alone," she added.
It came to a point where Rhian herself started to believe all the "horrible things" being said about her.
"Kaya ang dami ko ring self-hate before when I was younger. There were two years of my life na parang, when I say I wanted to give up, I'm not talking about showbiz. I'm talking about life as I knew it," she said as she got teary-eyed.
She eventually overcame that hardship as she realized that "there's got to be more to this life and this career." However, this didn't happen in a blink of an eye.
"It happened over a period of time. Kasi sometimes when you're really down and depressed and you're broken-hearted about everything, sometimes it gets better and then it comes in waves. So my dad would always tell me that. Sabi niya, 'Just take it, Rhian. It's okay. It comes in waves.' So minsan, you feel okay again and then something just comes back," the local star explained.
"Parang may good points and bad points until it just became like smaller waves siguro. The day that I realized that I was okay was when I was alone and playing music and dancing. And then I was dancing alone and I stopped and I went, 'I think I'm okay,'" she continued, highlighting how "time really does heal."
When asked what advice she would give to her younger self, Rhian underscored how "the amount of power that something has over you is only equivalent to the amount that you give it."
"Kunwari, someone na hindi mo kilala may sinasabi about you, tapos you cooperate with it, you believe it, you listen to it, when sa totoo lang, kung hindi ka niya kilala, ibig sabihin hindi 'yan tungkol sa'yo. Kasi paano niya masasabi 'yun about you? Never ka niyang na-meet," she said.
Rhian has now discovered a new confidence in herself where accepts her imperfection and is unapologetic about it.
While she didn't specify the controversies that hounded her at the time, Rhian was tagged as a "playgirl" for being linked to different guys, including Philip Younghusband, Mo Twister, Paolo Paraiso, Richard Gutierrez, Dennis Trillo, Mark Herras, JC de Vera, and directors Mike Tuviera and Topel Lee when she was just 17 years old.
"All of them untrue," she told the late entertainment journalist Ricky Lo of The Philippine STAR when asked about the rumors in 2008, saying they were “meant to ruin my image and make me appear as a playgirl.”
