LOOK: Robina Gokongwei-Pe's 'twin' snake makes appearance in Robinson's ahead of Lunar New Year
Robina Gokongwei-Pe, chairman of Robinsons Retail Holdings, poked fun at the longstanding urban legend about her alleged snake “twin” that hides in their mall in Ortigas.
The businesswoman shared her hilarious take on the urban legend on her Facebook post on Monday, Jan. 27. In the photo, she is seen posing with glittery gold and pink snake decors in one of their malls.
“Look who finally decided to come out of hiding. My shining, shimmering golden twin (with his pretty in pink girlfriend)! Here’s to a slitheringly good Year of the Snake!” she quipped in the caption.
In case you didn’t know, the urban legend about the snake creature hiding in their flagship mall in Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas started in the 1990s. It was said that the mutant snake—half-snake and half-human, is allegedly a twin of Robina, the eldest child of the Gokongwei family.
One of the notable “victims” of the snake is actress Alice Dixson, who allegedly fell into the trap door of the mall’s dressing room and was attacked by the snake. Some also claimed that the family paid her for silence, but in 1991, she denied the incident ever occurred.
In 2020, Dixson detailed what happened at the time. According to her, the incident happened during her movie shoot in Robinsons Galleria.
"[Production] directed me to the bathroom sa labas ng department store on the fourth-floor para magpalit ng damit," she recalled in her YouTube vlog four years ago.
"Natatandaan ko pa nga may nag-uusyoso sa labas, and for some reason while I was inside the bathroom, I said, 'tuklaw, tuklaw,’ she continued. "Now, I don't really know kung bakit ko iyon ginawa. Siguro kasi, I was just being funny? I was trying to get a laugh sa mga kasamahan ko? I was being young and silly."
Dixson added that a few days after the incident, news broke out that a snake attacked her at a mall.
"One day, or one morning my secretary told me na tumawag ang isang Robinsons representative. Gusto akong kausapin. Siguro they wanted to ask me if I made these comments and accusations. But I dismissed it and went on with my business."
She set the record straight, “Nothing really happened. Nothing really happened in the way the urban legend or the myth dictates.”
"Kunwari, hindi naman ako nahulog sa trap door. Hindi naman ako tumakbo sa corridor palabas papunta sa hotel. Hindi din naman ako nabayaran ng 850 million, at hindi rin nangyari iyong na-cut iyong pagsasalita ko sa isang TV show when I was trying to explain myself,” Dixson said. "Those things are all not true."
