Ellen DeGeneres, wife Portia de Rossi moving to UK after Trump's US election win—report

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi are reportedly leaving the United States to reside in rural England after Donald Trump won his bid for presidency, marking his comeback to the White House.

According to multiple media outlets, including TMZ, E! News, and The Wrap, a source close to the pair said that DeGeneres and de Rossi are putting their Montecito estate up for sale and are planning to "never return" to the US with Trump serving as its chief executive.

However, the insider also detailed that DeGeneres had been looking to start her life anew after her talk show ended following reports that she was cultivating a toxic workplace atmosphere and behavior.

The source said that the retired television host and her wife are settling in a new residence in Cotswolds, a rural area in south-central England, and that her Montecito mansion will be listed on the market soon.

The house is just one of the couple's Southern California properties. They got it in 2019 and has since become their primary residence.

It's unknown what DeGeneres' plans are after moving to the UK now that she has officially stepped out of the limelight after the release of her Netflix special, For Your Approval.

DeGeneres has stated that the special will be the end of her public career as a comedian, sharing that she is "done with fame" and that "this is the last time you're going to see me."

She previously became a hot topic for allegations that her show, which ran for 19 seasons, was a torrid place to work. Former staffers claimed that it tolerated bullying, racial discrimination, and sexual harassment.

However, Ellen insisted that her decision to end her program had nothing to do with the claims.

The comedian is a known opposer of Trump. In 2017, she told television personality Matt Lauer that she would not, hypothetically, invite the Republican leader as a guest on her show as they share entirely different political views.

"He’s against everything that I stand for. We need to look at someone else who looks different than us and believes in something that we don’t believe in and still accept them, and still let them have their rights," DeGeneres said.

Trump reclaimed the highest position in the US government after getting the 270 electoral votes he needed to beat his Democratic rival Kamala Harris. He previously lost in 2020 against outgoing president Joe Biden.
