Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk, Lee Se-young join forces in new K-drama, 'The Remarried Empress'
K-drama fans, get ready for another star-studded show as South Korea's A-list stars Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk, and Lee Se-young are coming together to headline The Remarried Empress.
The drama is based on the popular webtoon and web novel of the same name and follows Empress Navier, a graceful and intelligent ruler who faces betrayal at the hands of her husband, Sovieshu. She divorces Sovieshu and unexpectedly requests approval of her marriage with another emperor named Heinrey, the prince of the Western Empire, the webtoon's synopsis read.
Oh My Venus star Min-a takes on the lead role of Empress Navier, marking her return to the historical romance genre.
Ji-hoon will portray Emperor Sovieshu, while Jong-suk joins as new husband Emperor Heinrey.
The Red Sleeve actress Lee Se-young, on the other hand, steps into the role of Rashta, a beautiful and cunning former slave whose arrival threatens to turn the royal court upside down as she "dares to covet the Empress's throne."
The drama will be helmed by Jo Soon Won, who helmed hit K-drama series including I Hear Your Voice and Pinocchio.
"We plan to faithfully recreate the original world that fans across the globe have fallen in love with. With striking mise-en-scène, grand scale, and narrative completeness, this series will set a new standard for the romance fantasy genre and captivate viewers," the production team said, as per Soompi.
Further details, such as the premiere date and where it will be streamed, have not yet been announced.
Min-a is best known for starring in K-dramas, including A Love to Kill, My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho, Arang and the Magistrate, Oh My Venus, Tomorrow, With You, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, and Our Blues.
Currently, she portrays the role of Lee Ju-yeon in the new Netflix crime thriller series, Karma.
Ji-hoon gained international recognition with his leading role in the television series Princess Hours in 2006. He also portrayed roles in The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, Love Your Enemy, and Light Shop, among others.
Moreover, Jong-suk, who's in a relationship with When Life Gives You Tangerine star IU, also starred in hit Korean TV series such as W, Big Mouth, Doctor Stranger, Pinocchio, and many more.
Se-young, meanwhile, debuted as a child actress in 1997 and was best known for her roles in Dae Jang Geum, When I Turned Nine, Lovely Rivals, and The Wonder Years, to name a few.
