Jake Cuenca on why he's pursuing Chie Filomeno: 'She's like the one that got away for me'
There is no doubt that love is in the air for Jake Cuenca and Chie Filomeno. A month after Chie admitted that they've been seeing each other lately, Jake opened up about why he's been going after the actress.
According to The Iron Heart star, Chie is his "the one that got away" or someone close to your heart that, for some reason, you didn't end up being in a relationship with.
Jake admitted this in an interview with MJ Marfori on Sept. 23, where he said, "In so many ways, she's kinda like the one that got away for me."
The 35-year-old actor added that he and the 27-year-old star already dated before reuniting last year.
"Kasi we dated na before. A long time ago… She was in Showtime already, she was already dancing in Showtime," he added.
The actor recounted that their reconnection happened in last year's Star Magic Christmas Ball when he mustered the courage to approach her. He likened the experience to a scene straight from a movie.
“I went up to her, naglakas-loob ako. It was the Christmas Ball of Star Magic. It was not the plan, it’s biglaan talaga. It felt like something from a movie," he recalled.
“I have so many things to do that day. I went to The Eddys with Ma’am Charo [Santos-Concio]. Ang dami kong ginawa. And again, I was just gonna go to the Ball just to give my respect to Direk Lauren Dyogi, say hi to the bosses and get out of there," he continued.
“That was my thing naman, but I saw her so I stayed. It felt like it's something from a movie."
Meanwhile, Chie confirmed dating Jake last month but she emphasized that she is taking her time before agreeing to be his girlfriend to make sure they are both “ready and fully committed.”
“We did date before a couple of times. Pero kasi understandable kasi 'yun 'yung phase niya na medyo marami pang nangyayari sa kanya. And ako, I was young back then. In-accept namin 'yung fact na nawala 'yon,” she said.
In April 2022, Jake confirmed his split with former beauty queen Kylie Verzosa whom he dated for three years.
