Kim Chiu's sister Lakambini released on bail in P44.4-million qualified theft case
Kim Chiu's sister Lakambini secured her P5.6 million bail through a surety bond on Thursday, Sept. 24, and is now out of detention.
According to ABS-CBN News, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology confirmed that Lakambini was released from the Quezon City Jail Female Dormitory past 5:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Sept. 24. She spent four nights in detention since her arrest on Sunday, Sept. 20, over a P44.4 million qualified theft case filed by Kim.
Her bail was initially set at P5.8 million, which was lowered to P5.6 million on Tuesday, Sept. 22 after a request from Lakambini's camp. According to her legal counsel Atty. Dominic Solis, the initial amount would have been halved if Lakambini agreed to post a cash bond.
Ultimately, her camp decided to post bail via a surety bond, where a bonding company, in exchange for a non-refundable fee, gave the Quezon City court a financial guarantee that Lakambini would meet all her legal obligations.
In December 2025, Kim filed a qualified theft complaint against Lakambini, alleging she was connected to the financial discrepancies discovered in the books of their joint venture, House of Little Bunny Philippines, Inc. According to Kim then, it was a "very difficult chapter" which the sisters tried to resolve between themselves. But when the attempts fell through, Kim decided to take the legal route.
On the same day of Lakambini's release, Kim appeared at the Quezon City Hall of Justice to attend her older sister's arraignment. Lakambini attended virtually.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Kim said she was hurting.
"Sobrang nasasaktan po ako. People may have different opinions with my decision, and I understand that," she wrote.
"This is about a business which started in 2023, built with years of hard work, sacrifices, and dreams," she continued, adding the complained her legal team filed covered only the period from January to July 2025.
"There is so much more to this story," Kim wrote, but added she was choosing not to disclose the details publicly.
"For now, I trust and let the legal process take its course," she wrote.
