Lakambini Chiu's bail lowered to P5.6 million
The bail of Kim Chiu's older sister Lakambini was reduced from P5.8 million to P5.6 million on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
According to an ABS-CBN News report, Lakambini's legal counsel Atty. Dominic Solis said a Quezon City court also gave the accused the option of posting a cash bond, in which case the amount would be halved to about P2.9 million.
The bail amount stays at P5.6 million if Lakambini posts a surety bond. In this setup, a bonding company gives a financial guarantee to the court in exchange for a non-refundable fee from her camp.
Solis said that while they hope to secure Lakambini's release within the week, they are still discussing the bail options and are thankful for the P200,000 reduction in her bail.
On Dec. 2, 2025, Kim filed a qualified theft complaint against her older sister in relation to "serious financial discrepancies" she discovered in the business venture they shared.
According to the actress' lawyer Xylene Dolor, the siblings tried several times to solve the problem themselves, but to no avail.
While Dolor declined to name the joint venture concerned, it was later revealed to be the House of Little Bunny PH, of which both Chiu sisters are stakeholders.
Lakambini was formally charged with 124 counts of qualified theft on Sept. 1. On Sept. 12, the Office of the City Prosecutor of Quezon City announced it found six elements of qualified theft. In its resolution, the Office noted that Lakambini was HOLB PH's co-incorporator and corporate secretary. The dual roles apparently gave her access to the joint corporate bank accounts.
The resolution also stated that "the evidence on record establishes that respondent Lakambini unlawfully took and appropriated corporate funds in the aggregate amount of P44,396,331.65, fully aware that the same did not belong to her."
Lakambini was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 20. She is currently detained at the custodial facility of Kamuning Police Station 10.
