Hyun Bin reveals Son Ye-jin went on hiatus to prioritize their son
South Korean actor Hyun Bin revealed that his wife, Son Ye Jin, sacrificed her acting career to focus on caring for their son.
In his first variety show appearance in 13 years, Hyun Bin opened up about his married life with Ye-jin on Yoo Quiz On The Block. He revealed that Ye-jin is eager to resume her acting career after taking a break to raise their two-year-old son.
"She must have really wanted to act again after all this time. Watching me act probably made her want to do it even more. But as a mom, she had things she needed to take care of, so she endured it patiently," he said, per a translation from allkpop.
"I feel a bit sorry for that. Seeing how excited she is for this project makes me feel even happier," he added.
Despite temporarily sacrificing her career, Ye-jin was very supportive of Hyun Bin's projects, which is why he wants to return the favor now that she has been cast in the upcoming thriller No Other Choice.
"After I finished filming Harbin, I think she sensed the pressure I had been under. She told me I did a good job. So, when she finishes this project, I’ll make sure to tell her she did a great job too," the actor said.
It helps that the couple is walking on the same career path as it helps them "understand everything without having to explain it in detail."
But the actor noted, "That can also be a disadvantage because we know too much. We can predict, 'Ah, they must be done by now,' so there's no room for guessing."
Nevertheless, he underscored how much respect he has for his other half.
"From the moment our baby was born until now, seeing everything she does is truly amazing. I respect her, and I'm so grateful. It must have been difficult to fill in for me completely while I was away filming, but she endured it all so quietly and patiently. I’m really thankful for that." he said.
Talking about his son, Hyun Bin shared that he tries to spend some quality time with him as much as he can.
"We usually go for walks outside and visit the playground. When we play at home, I do everything. I also read him storybooks, but I think my wife does a better job at that," Hyun said.
"He loves anything with wheels. Especially motorcycles. When we go for walks with my wife, he greets all the delivery drivers he sees," he continued.
Hyun Bin and Ye-jin, who were co-stars in The Negotiation and Crash Landing on You, tied the knot in a private ceremony in March 2022. The couple welcomed their first child, nicknamed Alkong, in November of the same year.
