Kidlat Tahimik is a warrior at the frontlines of culture battlefields since he started making films in 1975. His choice to make introspective works (rather than action packed commercial films) focuses on his personal evolution in the real world of the Filipino mind colonized by colonial education and by Hollywood. His creative processes (via film, performance and installation art) inspire nextgen artists to revive our disappearing indigenous traditions (what he calls our Pinoy indio-genius assets.) This consistent advocacy has earned him recognition as a National Artist at home and as a laureate of film poetry abroad.
