Derek Ramsay denies driving supercar with alleged fake plate, says he will cooperate with LTO probe

Derek Ramsay has broken his silence regarding chatter about the owner of a supercar with allegedly fake plates.

On Aug. 14, the Land Transportation Office published a press release on its issuance of a show cause order for an actor and businessman who owned the vehicle with the supposed fake plates. 

Following verification, the LTO found that the plate on the supercar bore an alphanumeric combination different from its original license plate number. The registered owner and the driver were both directed to explain the violation and why the agency shouldn't suspend or revoke their license for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

The LTO has also suspended the license of the driver for 90-days and placed the vehicle under alarm.

The agency's post did not name the actor in question, but LTO Chief Assec. Markus Lacanilao confirmed his identity to a news outlet.

Lacanilao earlier said that there are "no VIPs" under the law. "Kahit sino pa ang sangkot, kapag napatunayang lumabag, haharap sa kaukulang pananagutan," he said.

"Hindi magdadalawang-isip ang LTO na kumilos laban sa sinumang lalabag sa ating mga patakaran. Walang palakasan, walang palusot, at walang exemption."

Ramsay has spoken out about the incident, denying using fake plates.

"[I've] seen the issue regarding the 918 Spyder on social media. I do not drive any cars with fake plates. All my vehicles have proper plates," he wrote in an Instagram story on his private account.

The actor added that he has yet to receive a show cause order from LTO, but he will cooperate and appear when requested.

He also apologized to the LTO. "Driving with fake plates is wrong and should not be tolerated."
