WATCH: 'Shrek 5' drops first teaser trailer
Universal Pictures has officially dropped the first teaser trailer for Shrek 5.
The teaser opens in its typical storybook fashion chronicling the adventures of Shrek and Donkey.
"Once upon a time, a hideous ogre and a delusional donkey embarked on a journey to the magical city of further, further away," the narrator read.
The scene then switches to Shrek's swamp home, where Donkey expresses his excitement about a new adventure to Shrek's apparent family of four, which includes his two grown-up ogre sons.
"Two stalwart friends... on a whirlwind... big city... adventure," Donkey says as an annoyed Shrek interrupts him in between.
The preview also showed Gingy flaunting his strawberry candy buttocks alongside two gingerbread women, ready for another wild ride.
The scenes then show the ogre family and Donkey riding the onion carriage to Far Far Away as they encounter one mishap after another. A Frozen parody character even shows up in an alley quipping, "You wanna date a snowman?"
Shrek's daughter Felicia could be briefly seen riding aback a flying witch on a broomstick, knights in carriages out on a chase, before cutting to Donkey and the ogre family behind bars.
Shrek 5 is the fifth installment in the Shrek movie franchise, which comes almost two decades after 2010's Shrek Forever After. Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz are returning to voice Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, respectively, along with newcomer Zendaya (Felicia), as revealed in an earlier cast announcement.
The film is set to premiere in June 2027.
