Ateneo retains top spot among PH universities in 2027 THE World Rankings

Ateneo de Manila University is once again the top Philippine institution in the the 2027 Times Higher Education World University Rankings that was released on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Ateneo retained its position in the 1,001–1,200 global band, marking its fifth consecutive year as the country’s highest-ranked institution in the THE rankings.

The rankings are based on five core criteria. ADMU recorded an overall score range of 33.3–36.3, scoring 66.9 in research quality (impact, strength, excellence, and influence), 34.5 in international outlook (staff, students, and teachers), 26.5 in teaching, 23.0 in industry (income and patents), and 13.1 in research environment (volume, income, and reputation). 

Following the Katipunan-based institution, the University of the Philippines ranked in the 1,201–1,400 band.

The University of Santo Tomas placed third among Philippine universities, landing in the 1,601–1,800 band, while De La Salle University and Mapúa University were both placed in the 1,801–2,000 band. Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology was the sixth institution included in the rankings.

THE Rankings said they used "18 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments."

It ranked 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories in its 2027 edition—up from 2,191 the previous year—with the University of Oxford taking the top spot for the 11th consecutive year, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
