Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) emerged as the top PH university for the fifth time at Times Higher Education's (THE) world rankings for 2025.

In the ranking released on Wednesday, Oct. 9, ADMU is the only Philippine university that landed on the 1001-1200 bracket.

The university was assessed based on five pillars namely teaching, where it got a 30.1 overall score; research environment (volume, income, and reputation) at 10.8; research quality (research impact, strength, excellence, and influence) at 57; international outlook (staff, students, and teachers) at 33.4; and industry (income and patents) at 24.4. "The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is global recognition that Ateneo de Manila is a top performing university in the Philippines," university president, Fr. Roberto Yap SJ, said in a statement. "However, rankings like these do not fully define what Ateneo stands for; they are merely tools for benchmarking and continual improvement as an institution. Our core mission remains the same: to educate and form minds and hearts to be of service to others, in a distinctly Filipino, Catholic, and Jesuit way.”

Ateneo was followed by the University of the Philippines (1201-1500) as well as De La Salle University, Mapúa University, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, and the University of Santo Tomas at over 1501 brackets.

The publication ranked a total of 2,092 institutions from 115 countries and territories for the 2025 list. Landing in the top spot worldwide is Oxford University, which has held the rank for the ninth consecutive year, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, respectively.

Founded in 2004, THE is a British magazine reporting on news and issues in global higher education.
