Nadine Lustre's malicious online attacker sentenced
Nadine Lustre revealed that the social media user she sued last year for harassing her online is now convicted.
Lustre made the revelation on Wednesday, June 9, during the press conference of her Viu series Love, Siargao, at a cafe in Quezon City.
"He was obviously given a sentence and of course rehabilitation as well. He was going to go through seminars for gender sensitivity," she said.
Recalling the incident, she noted that her legal counsel advised her to take action against the commenter.
“Nag-comment siya and then noong nag-advise yung legal counsel [ko] to take action, pinahanap nila," she said. "And then noong nahanap na siya, we served [him the] legal documents.”
She detailed that the user's Instagram account contained only limited content and did not appear to be fake, but authorities were still able to identify the poster. She added that the online user was identified, and she met the person around April.
"Around end of April before flying to Siargao, that's the time when I actually met the person. Even if you look at it in different ways, parang hindi talaga kasi okay 'yung sinabi niya."
Lustre said that the person apologized to her, but she admitted that while she is used to facing harsh criticism, she chose to file the case after hearing from real victims and individuals who found the malicious comments deeply triggering.
She is hopeful that the result of the case would teach people to be more responsible with their words online, "I want it to at least let the people know that you can’t just say those things on social media and there’s no way for you to not be traced. There’s always a way to find you."
"I really wanted to push through for social media to be a safe space for everyone," she said.
In May 2025, Lustre filed the complaint against the social media user in 2025 citing "relentless and malicious attacks she has endured," and a possible violation of the Safe Spaces Act. She was accompanied by ML party-list and Gabriela Women’s Party during her filing.
