BINI gives special live performance at 'Forgotten Island' panel at Comic-Con
BINI took the stage at this year's San Diego Comic-Con to perform A Parallel World, the official soundtrack of Forgotten Island.
The nation's girl group surprised attendees with a performance of the soundtrack, which features Filipino lyrics, during the film's panel.
Also present at the event were the film's main cast members, H.E.R., Liza Soberano, and Dave Franco, who joined the discussion and shared more about the film.
Franco, who plays Raww the weredog, shared that the animators behind the film used cameras attached to each actor's face to capture their facial expressions, which were then used as references for the characters' animation.
“There's this tiny camera that is pointed at us while we're recording, and so the animators would watch that footage and actually match our expressions to how we were performing the lines," he said.
Soberano also noted that the animators picked up her mannerisms, including how she wears her eyeglasses.
During their interview with ExtraTV, Soberano talked more about how she got her role as Raissa.
"It's actually like quite serendipitous how this whole project like came together for me. I had just moved back to America from the Philippines when I got asked to audition for this role. And a big part of like me moving was so that I could find growth as an artist and just as a human being," she shared.
She admitted that she received backlash over the decision, leaving her afraid to leave the Philippines for fear of having no career or loved ones to return to.
"But through this film, I realized that, you know, even when you're like kind of going away from home or leaving a few people behind, you have all these memories and you have this like deep connection and relationship that can always, like you can always come back to," she added. "This project was very special for me because it just made that journey of moving from the Philippines back to America feel a lot easier."
Before this, DreamWorks released a behind-the-scenes teaser showing the girl group recording the OST in the studio. The song is now available for streaming on Spotify.
The Forgotten Island soundtrack also includes songs by Broadway icon Lea Salonga, P-pop group SB19, and Sophia Laforteza of global girl group KATSEYE. H.E.R. and Soberano also lend their voices to the track BRB, which appears in the film.
Inspired by Filipino folklore, Forgotten Island follows lifelong best friends Jo and Raissa, who become stranded on the magical island of Nakali. To find their way home, they must face an impossible choice that could cost them their friendship.
The film is written and directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the creative duo behind Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Croods: A New Age. It also features the voices of Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Ronny Chieng, Dave Franco, and Jenny Slate.
Forgotten Island opens in theaters on Sept. 25 through Universal Pictures.
BINI is set to continue the "Signals" world tour in the US, with the first stop in Honolulu, Hawaii.
