Apple's next iPhone event is set for Sept. 9. Here's what to expect
The next iPhone is coming sooner than you think.
Apple has set the date for its next launch event, titled "Surprise and shine," for Sept. 9 (Sept. 10, 1 a.m. Philippine time). The tech giant is expected to unveil the newest iPhone 18 series as well as the first foldable iPhone.
The upcoming launch will be the first under Apple's next CEO, John Turnus, as current chief Tim Cook will be stepping down officially on Sept. 1.
What to expect
Several tech outlets have reported that the upcoming launch will introduce the world to the Cupertino company's foray into the foldable market: the iPhone Ultra.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who specializes in Apple news, the foldable devices will be about the size of a standard passport and will open up to reveal a screen that's nearly the size of a small iPad. It's something akin to Samsung's new Galaxy Fold8, which featured a new form factor with a 10:16 aspect ratio when folded and 4:3 when unfurled.
Other rumored features include a crease-free display, liquid metal hinge design, an A20 chip, and no Face ID.
Meanwhile, Gurman said that this year, Apple won't launch a regular iPhone 18 or the next-generation iPhone Air. Instead, it will unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, which will reportedly see a variable aperture lens for the main shooter.
MacRumors reports that, looks-wise, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will feature the same camera plateau as the iPhone 17 Pro and a slimmer Dynamic Island.
The iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and the next iPhone Air are set to launch next spring, as per Bloomberg News.
Apple's Sept. 9 launch will be streamed via YouTube on Sept. 10 at 1 a.m. Philippine time.
