A more comfortable arrival experience is on the horizon for passengers entering the Philippines as the Ninoy Aquino International Airport unveiled its newly upgraded Terminal 1 Arrivals Extension.

As shown in a video shared to NAIA's social media, the improved arrivals station has reduced its ramp slope from 8% to 4%, and it is now built with an anti-slip rubber mat flooring.

This makes it "safer and more accessible for all passengers," according to NAIA.

There will also be a centralized taxi and ride-hailing hub for faster pick-ups and smoother traffic flow, as well as a dedicated area for meeters and greeters.

Additionally, the area has been made brighter and has "more open space for easier movement and comfort."

Passengers can also look forward to a wider selection of dining options within the upgraded space, with the airport assuring that more will be opening soon.

The T1 Arrivals Extension will officially open on Feb. 9. This is just one of the steps taken by the New NAIA Infra Corp. to rehabilitate the airport, which was ranked the worst airport in the world in the analysis of the Australian firm Compare the Market in 2024.

NAIA recently launched biometric immigration e-gates at Terminal 3, allowing passengers to clear immigration in about 20 seconds with their passport through facial recognition technology. The e-gates at NAIA Terminal 1 are also now operating.

The NNIC took over the airport’s operations in September 2024 after winning the bidding in February. Their contract is 15 years and can be extended to 10 more years.
