LIST: These local celebrities, personalities will convince you to rock a pixie cut
Just like Basha in One More Chance or Miley Cyrus' post-Liam Hemsworth breakup, cutting your hair short can be a liberating experience. It's a great way to start fresh, feel empowered, and make a statement.
One hairstyle that embodies this feeling is the pixie cut. Stylish and practical, especially in warmer weather, the pixie cut can boost your confidence and make you feel more assertive.
Take a look at these celebrities and personalities who rocked the pixie 'do. Who knows, their hairstyles may inspire you to have yours snipped, too!
Nadine Lustre
Nadine Lustre proves she looks good in any 'do as her new androgynous look made the rounds online.
For her runway appearance as the sole female model at Rajo Laurel's latest collection for his menswear line, RAJOMAN, the 30-year-old actress sported a pixie cut styled by Paul Nebres.
In an interview with PhilSTAR L!fe, Nebres talked about the inspiration behind the new 'do.
"When we got confirmation of the Rajoman show, Jelly [Eugenio], Nadine, [and I] usually do brainstorming weeks before the event. This time since it's RAJOMAN, and she's the only girl walking, we [wanted] her to blend in but still look gorgeous," he told L!fe.
Nebres also noted that they opted for this look because Nadine is "really game" to try new hairstyles. Her latest pixie cut is reminiscent of fashion model Linda Evangelista, according to Nebres.
KZ Tandingan
KZ Tandingan has long been slaying pixie cuts and short hairstyles, transforming her look into a winning edge.
KZ debuted her short haircut for the first time in 2015 during Martin Nievera's concert, in which she was a guest performer. Since then, the singer, dubbed Asia's Soul Supreme, has undergone several hairstyle changes—from a lob to bobs to the short-lived mullet.
Liza Soberano
Liza Soberano's pixie cut marked a significant moment in her style evolution and captured widespread attention as a Preview cover girl.
The pixie cut wasn't just a fashion statement for the 26-year-old Hollywood actress; it marked a new beginning in her life and career, signaling her readiness "to take on more layered, international roles on- and off-cam."
"I'm a warrior; I've survived so much worse before my 14 years in show business. And now that I've found my voice and gained back the confidence to confront any challenge that comes my way, I'm determined to use those tools toward the things I'm actually passionate about," she told the media outlet.
In terms of the hairstyle, Nebres also told L!fe that he didn't hesitate to do the pixie 'do for Liza since the latter has a gorgeous face that can pull off any hairstyle.
"I twitch their peg a little bit just to add more character, so I purposely chopped the bangs unevenly, and I think it worked," he said.
Nebres added, "It's also my first time working with her so I really want it to be memorable and the iconic look."
Billie Hakenson
Talking about defying beauty norms.
While it was pretty common to see most of the beauty pageant candidates sporting long hair, voluminous waves, or sleek straight hair, Billie Hakenson, who represented Cavite in the inaugural edition of Miss Universe in 2020, broke stereotypes in pageantry, thanks to her pixie hairdo.
The beauty queen-turned-celebrity bagged the fourth runner-up award, while Rabiya Mateo was hailed as the titleholder.
Chariz Solomon
Comedienne Chariz Solomon's pixie cut also allows her to express her individuality as a celebrity mom and challenge conventional beauty standards, encouraging others to embrace their unique styles, too, even when they have babies!
Pat Cortez
Freelance model and content creator Pat Cortez is known for her distinct sense of style, often experimenting with different looks, including trendy hairstyles and outfits. Her fashion choices often set trends among her followers.
"I had short hair ever since I was in High School and maintained it ever since. I never really thought anything of it, but [I] always knew it became part of my overall appearance & some may associate me with it, so I kept it," she told L!fe, adding that she felt most confident after doing such hair cut and hair dye.
"I feel the most confident after a cut or hair dye and love experimenting with the shapes."
Pat revealed to L!fe that her look was inspired by the 80s Berlin rave scene, her favorite style, combined with modern makeup and fashion.
"Sometimes I do a mixie (mullet + pixie), sometimes a sharp heart bangs or a micro bang with soft layers — all Berlin-inspired hairstyles ever since I got a cut from a hairstylist there — Jessica Kramm."
She also shared how she maintained her hair, including the usage of Olaplex products, hair oils, and wax.
"Doesn’t look like it but I actually maintain it regularly. Monthly haircuts and treatments are usually just at home using Olaplex products, hair oils and wax."
How to maintain a pixie cut
The pixie cut is a short hairstyle characterized by its close-cropped length and often playful, textured appearance.
For Nebres, a pixie cut gives an impression of "boldness, confidence, and a fresh start."
"[Pixie cut] could also be a loud statement of restarting and moving on from the past or showing personal growth," he said to L!fe.
Another local hairstyle expert, MJ Rone, agreed and added that people who sport the pixie cut are "very strong and confident."
"I believe a woman with a pixie cut loves adventure and is not afraid of trying new things. Pixie is not just an ordinary hairstyle; this also represents courage and someone who can also show that you can pull off the shortest haircut," he said.
When asked about specific face shapes or hair types that best suit the pixie cut, Nebres said, "I recommend this haircut to all that has square or diamond face shapes because this can help to highlight their jaws pointed chins and it balances the edges of your face."
"For those who have big foreheads, goes with pixie with bangs to cover their forehead and [try] tapered pixie to those who want to try boy cut type of hairstyles," Rone said.
As for maintenance, Nebres explained that a pixie cut is low-maintenance, as you can wash it like normal hair due to its textured style.
"You can also go sleek by using gels and hair oils when styling it and you can go more edgy with texture bangs by adding texturizing spray or powders," he told L!fe.
Rone suggests to consider your hair's quality and type to determine the best styling products.
"If your hair is wavy or curly or if it's thin or thick, so you would know which product to use like moose, hair wax and gel, hairsprays and how to style it," he said. "Always try to start with a good blow dry so it would be easier to style your hair."
To keep a pixie cut looking its best, Rone suggested trying Beaver Professional's Light and Natural 3D Hold Wax (P800), GATSBY Pomade Gel Wax, and COLOR WOW extra large mousse for $26.00 (P1,500.26).
