The Filipino man is in Vogue

By MARBBIE TAGABUCBA, The Philippine Star Published Jun 07, 2024 5:00 am

Where there is excellence, there is a Filipino. When we think of fashion and style, we think womenswear—but not anymore. With the timely launch of Vogue Man Philippines, Filipino men and our menswear get their time to shine, fronted by no less than the first Filipino male supermodel himself, Paolo Roldan.

“It’s an exciting time as we recognize the incredible potential that lies within the menswear market in the Philippines,” says Vogue Man Philippines editor Danyl Geneciran. “Over the years, we’ve witnessed a remarkable evolution in men’s fashion, driven by a growing demand for sophistication, individuality, and self-expression.”

Roldan is the perfect face of the global Filipino. In the cover story written by yours truly, the buyer-turned-former Givenchy muse talks about how he gets his “eight hours” in as a model, training with the discipline of an athlete daily, and reflects with the zen of a philosopher about life’s phases in seasons. Wearing brands and designers such as Louis Vuitton, Joey Samson, and Rajo Laurel, Roldan is shot by Renzo Navarro in Batangas.

Also in the issue is Gil Duldulao, Janet Jackson’s longtime collaborator, who talks about how he found purpose through dance.

Nicolo Perez charts a future in fashion guided by high school sketches and childhood dreams. Louie Villalon and Patrick Roland De Guzman make a positive impact on the Philippines’ energy crisis. Through the lens of his camera phone, Jude Lartey speaks to the power of self-discovery.

Geneciran couldn’t be more perfect for the role. A seasoned editor, visual director, and fashion entrepreneur by way of Toronto, New York, Paris, and now Manila, he is best known for bridging entertainment, culture, and high fashion, championing Filipino creatives with a global perspective. I look forward to the upcoming monthly issues available for purchase as a bundle with Vogue Philippines.
