Want healthy-looking skin? This skincare brand helps you achieve that by restoring its natural barrier
Ever notice your skin feeling off after frequent washing or spending too much time in the sun?
Dr. Virginie Cardon, a medical specialist at L’Oreal Dermatological Beauty, warned that this could signal a damaged skin barrier, which is often linked to various skin conditions—from dry skin and acne to eczema and psoriasis.
“Damage to the skin barrier is often caused by altered lipid properties in the outermost skin layer,” she said, adding that it can be triggered by overcleansing, using harsh cleansers with high pH levels and abrasive ingredients, getting exposed to heat, taking certain medications, and having a genetic predisposition.
If you’re dealing with a skin condition and want to take skincare seriously, Cardon advised that repairing your skin barrier is a good way to start, as it "locks in moisture and keeps irritants out, contributing to healthy, hydrated skin.”
According to the dermatologist, it's possible with the help of products that contain ceramides, which are "natural lipids (fats) in your skin that help form a protective barrier.”
"When ceramide levels drop, skin can become dry, irritated, and prone to skin conditions,” she explained.
CeraVe is known for offering skincare items with three essential ceramides—EOP, NP, and AP—which she noted "are purportedly 'skin-identical,' mimicking the structure of natural skin ceramides.” This specific blend works with MVE technology and hyaluronic acid in restoring the skin barrier.
The MVE technology, per the skin expert, is a multilayer emulsion delivery system that slowly releases ingredients into the skin. An advantage of this, she said, is that it yields longer-lasting hydration without a greasy finish compared to a “burst release,” which would require you to reapply the product more often. Making it more effective is its combination with hyaluronic acid, which is known for boosting the moisture content in the skin.
"This addresses not just surface moisture, but the underlying health of the skin,” added Cardon.

Among the products that CeraVe offers are Moisturizing Cream, Moisturizing Lotion, as well as four cleansers for different skin types: Foaming Cleanser (for normal to oily skin), Hydrating Cleanser (for normal to dry skin), Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Cleanser (for normal to dry skin), and SA Smoothing Cleanser (for dry, rough, and bumpy skin).

The dermatologist said using these products could make your skin “feel more hydrated, more comfortable” after 24 hours of application. "The optimal results will be seen after one month of use, with two applications per day,” she continued.

CeraVe, the #1 dermatologist-recommended skincare brand in the US, is now available in the Philippines. You can get your hands on its products at Watsons, SM Department Stores, LOOK At Me Stores, as well as its official Shopee page.
