Where the south shops now
South Manila no longer has to shop north.
For years, style-conscious shoppers from below the metro line made the trek to Manila’s major retail hubs for their Zara fix—braving traffic for a shot at the season’s sharpest tailoring, elevated basics, or the perfectly cut slip dress. Not anymore. With the opening of its newest boutique at Alabang Town Center, Zara plants its flag firmly in the south, bringing its signature mix of runway-informed pieces and polished essentials closer to home.
More than just another outpost, the new store marks a shift in the fashion map—one that reflects how retail continues to evolve, where fashion, architecture, and technology converge to create a more seamless shopping experience.
The new retail language
Spanning approximately 1,800 square meters on a single level, the space unfolds as a sleek, highly considered retail environment, bringing together an expansive edit of womenswear and menswear alongside dedicated areas for fragrances, accessories, shoes, and bags.
The layout is designed to bring key pieces together intuitively, making styling feel more fluid and immersive. The Shoes & Bags space brings key pieces together in one area, elevating product visibility. Selected pieces are also woven throughout the store, allowing shoppers to see complete looks come together in real time.
Each section is attended to by knowledgeable staff who move through the store with impressive familiarity, offering a level of service that feels refreshingly attentive. When I asked about a pair of geometric-print flats in another size, there was no waiting or backroom guesswork—a staff member instantly confirmed that the last available pair was a size 39.
Technology also quietly shapes the experience. Dedicated pickup points for online orders, assisted checkout stations across sections, accessible payment areas, and streamlined return counters all work together to make navigating the space feel noticeably more seamless.
Conceived by Zara’s Architecture Studio, the overall atmosphere leans warm, refined, and quietly luxurious. Wood surfaces, contrasting steel finishes, ceramic textures, and marble accents come together to create an elevated backdrop that feels less like high-street retail and more like a contemporary fashion destination.
What’s new, what’s hot
Beyond the interiors, the real excitement hangs on the racks: easy tailoring, softened neutrals, fluid silhouettes, and statement accessories designed to slip seamlessly into everyday wardrobes.
Despite the scorching heat outside, the leather jackets still drew attention—offered in dependable shades of brown and a playful butter yellow that brought an unexpected lightness to the classic piece.
Denim appears in multiple forms this season, with washes ranging from crisp indigo to softly faded blues, cut across relaxed, straight, and tailored silhouettes.
Linen trousers also make a strong showing—easy, lightweight pieces designed for the kind of effortless dressing warm-weather days demand.
For those leaning into color, a dedicated section delivers everyday basics in vibrant summer hues, offering an easy way to brighten otherwise understated looks.
Accessories bring in a welcome sense of play, from quirky statement rings to woven bags, textured clutches, and easy caps that lend even pared-back looks a touch of personality.
The Zara run no longer requires a drive north. And judging by the steady crowds moving through the store, South Manila has long been ready for its own fashion destination.
