Fathers and sons: Fashion and passions
Sons look up to their fathers, developing a bond as they share activities as well as values and style. As children, many of them are mini-mes, with their own versions of Dad’s outfits. These classics serve them well, but individual expression comes into the picture as their style evolves and may even influence their fathers.
Just see how skinnies carried over from children to parents until they stopped being cool since all dads were wearing them already. The pendulum also swings the other way as sons rediscover their parents’ style like bulky Dad sneaks which were unfashionable for so long but suddenly became desirable when sons started adopting them, although now the slimmer retro types which Daddy wore in college are the favored ones. It’s this bond between generations, the dialogue between the past and the present that keep fashion evolving, after all, and just like these fathers and sons, dressing is always a new adventure and a source of fun that they share just like they do with their other passions.
Donnie Tantoco and Christian Tantoco

Donnie and Christian share a passion for creativity and heritage, both of which were showcased at the latter’s wedding at Nena’s Sanctuary with a modern Filipino theme that was exemplified in the custom pieces created for the bride, groom and entourage by Carl Jan Cruz, Dennis Lustico and Joey Samson who are known for their imaginative twists and artisanal craftsmanship, qualities that guide both Donnie and Christian in their fashion choices which include select pieces from Filipino designers at Rustan’s Department Store.
David Beckham and Brooklyn Beckham

Sport and fashion run in the family, with football great David and fashion designer Victoria as parents to Brooklyn. Although the father tends towards classic, impeccably tailored pieces, the son is more experimental, adding streetwear to the mix. Aside from modeling which they both share, they bond over racing cars which Brooke got into with his father at a young age and has now started collecting cars just like his old man.
Piolo Pascual and Iñigo Pascual

Iñigo looked up to his dad so much that he also became an actor and singer but pursued his own path in the US where he got his first international role in the drama series Monarch. He has also taken interest in interior design and plans to do apparel as well.
With their ongoing concert tours abroad, they’re, no doubt, bonding over music as well as fashion, appearing on stage and pictorials in the snazziest outfits.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Patrick Schwarzenegger
With Papa Arnold as the cinema blockbuster star that Patrick grew up with, it was but natural to follow suit, starting with small roles on film and television until he became this year’s breakout star of The White Lotus, the popular TV series with a cult following, leading to a star turn at the recent Met Gala red carpet wearing a Balmain jumpsuit, a stark contrast to Dad’s traditional suits.
They have a strong father-son relationship, though, which Patrick describes as “a great friendship” in a cover article for GQ Germany where they were both in their sartorial best.
Jericho Rosales and Santino Rosales

Unlike most showbiz fathers and sons, Santino opted not to be an actor like his dad, but they share a rigorous work ethic and goal-orientedness that were instilled from a young age. This Santino channeled into football and business, although one direction he took after his father is modelling where he made waves in shows like those of Michael Cinco. Jericho, of course, is also a favorite of fashion magazines and just as adventurous with fashion as his son.
Ricky Martin and sons Valentino and Matteo

Ricky Martin’s twin sons, whom he welcomed via surrogate in 2008, have traveled the world with him for concerts and are his biggest critics: “They tell me, Dad, yesterday was better than today. What’s going on with your singing? They’re very honest and I appreciate it.”
Valentino keeps a sharp eye, showing his knack for management, telling him, “Something happened with the dancers.” Matteo, on the other hand, has an artistic bent, noting, “No dabbing, Dad. That’s not cool anymore.”
His sons, no doubt, keep Ricky on his toes and in touch with the youth, even influencing his style.
Gary Valenciano and Gab Valenciano

Gab certainly took after his father, the music legend and total performer Gary Valenciano, making headlines on his own as dancer and choreographer in the viral video Super Selfie that no less than Beyonce took notice of and got the moves done for her music video 7/11.
Gary and Gab’s shared love of music, dance and fashion flair is even more explosive when they are seen performing together on stage.
Peter Hernandez and Bruno Mars

Long before Bruno Mars (born Peter Gene Hernandez) was winning Grammy Awards and doing sold-out concert tours, he was performing as an Elvis impersonator at age two with the band of his dad, Peter Hernandez, a Jewish-Puerto Rican musician from New York who married a Filipina, Bernadette San Pedro Bayot, and settled in Hawaii.
Bruno obviously inherited his father’s musicality and talent for performing, as well as his style with a Latino edge and a predilection for hats, as seen in the older Fernandez’s photos from his youth.
Anthony Pangilinan and sons Benj and Donny

Benj and Donny were raised to be grounded and hardworking by parents Anthony and Maricel who have their five children as their biggest fans for a long-lasting relationship.
As management consultant and motivational speaker, Anthony has well-tailored suits while his sons have their own versions of smart blazers with a younger edge. Their styles merge, however, when they have fun parties together with the family, like at a recent disco-themed one where they just let it all hang out with flares and prints.
Jo Koy and Joseph Herbert Jr.

Jo Koy and his only child, Joseph Herbert Jr. share a rare bond cultivated through time spent together ever since the former’s struggling years as a stand-up comedian. Joseph was there when Jo Koy was rejected by Netflix and had to finance the special himself, and was there in every gig meeting other comedians. He imbibed the culture and became fodder for the jokes of his father who draws endless inspiration from him: “I know he has a creative mind and he’s got a sense for fashion and comedy and I know that’s the avenue he’s going to take after school.” Now that he’s part of his father’s crew and travels the world with him, the synergy is even stronger and can be seen at their appearances together at premieres and red carpets.
