Look: The Miss Universe Philippines 2020 crown—and its inspiring meaning
On its first outing sans ties with Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Incorporated, Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) has recently unveiled its official crown for this year's pageant.
The name: Not as exciting—Filipina. The story behind it, however, can be inspiring.
MUP said it's most especially through the crown—the most tangible and pictured item to represent the pageant—that it wanted to reiterate its message of Filipina empowerment.
The Filipina, said the organization in an Instagram post, represents the "true meaning of womanhood"—symbolizing characteristics of a Filipina such as drive to success, creativity, intelligence, optimism, fear of God, and determination. The crown boasts of diamond, sapphire, ruby, and topaz, with the last three gemstones derived from the colors of the Philippine flag.
The Filipina was crafted by local brand Villarica Pawnshop, MUP's official crown sponsor.
"We are very grateful to them for stepping up to the challenge of creating this masterpiece. More than their expertise on gems and jewelry, they provided us with valuable insights on the significance of precious stones and what each one represents. These gems are emblems of dreams, ambition, happiness, pride, self-worth, and empowerment," MUP said in a post.
Another story on how the crown supports the female force lies in the sponsor's staff, MUP stressed.
"This is another major contribution to the cause of Women Empowerment from the same group founded by an empowered Filipina— a group that, until today, continues to place their belief in maintaining an all-female staff."
MUP 2020 concludes this Sunday, October 25. It will be held at the Baguio Country Club in Baguio City, but will be streamed both on TV and online.
With everyone already aware on where it's shown and what shimmery prize at stake looks like, only one question remains: Which Filipina will be wearing the Filipina?
