Nepal's Jane Garrett is proud to have represented 'real-size beauty' at Miss Universe 2023
Jane Garrett, Nepal's representative at the Miss Universe 2023 pageant, is truly an inspiration for body positivity!
On her Instagram page, Garrett celebrated her achievement of placing at the Top 20 of the recently concluded competition and expressed her gratitude to her fans who supported her journey.
"Top 20 baby! I’m grateful to all my fans and people who supported me. I gave my best and that’s what matters!" Garrett wrote.
She went on to say that she feels accomplished for getting to represent women of her body type in a platform that has long showcased slender-built candidates.
"I’m so proud to be representing real-size beauty around the world and breaking the stereotypes of beauty pageants. So proud of the new Miss Universe and will forever cherish this season of my life that was life-changing!" Garrett wrote.
In the comments section, many of the beauty queen's fans showered her with praises for her beauty and making history at the 72nd edition of Miss Universe.
"You are beautiful and a great woman, your presence has left its mark," one user commented.
Another one wrote, "Thanks for making history Jane, a successful life is waiting for you!"
Even before the pageant's preliminary competition, Garrett was already among the crowd’s favorites, earning loud cheers from the crowd as she made her way to the stage.
In September, Jane made headlines after making history both in her country and in the international pageantry being the first plus-size candidate to win and become a delegate.
She explained in a previous interview the importance of real-size beauty being represented on the Miss Universe stage, "Every year, it's the same type of beauty standard, the same beauty type—the size zero, slim tall—but so many women are not like that."
"Most of the women don't look like that, most of them are curvy, a lot of them are shorter, a lot of them are bigger. I think that it's so important to show the different types of women in the world," she continued.
Garrett added that she hopes the world of pageantry will be more accepting of women with a different kind of beauty.
"Most of my comments are very positive and that they're supporting me, and so that's a really good sign from society that their minds are opening to different beauty types and what a real woman looks like," she said.
The Miss Universe organization has been breaking barriers in the past years. The organization recently opened its doors to aspiring beauty queens who are mothers, married, and divorcees.
Miss Universe 2023 ended with Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua taking over the reign of R’Bonney Gabriel of the USA. Philippine bet Michelle Dee meanwhile concluded her journey in the Top 10 category.
