Eyewear may help some people see things better, but it can also serve as an added oomph to your overall looks.
Choosing the right pair, however, can be tricky as there are certain things to consider, depending on your chosen look for the day. “When wearing glasses, your image projection should dictate the style that you want to achieve,” style expert Millet Gonzales told PhilSTAR L!fe. “There are frames that will help you create that look that you want to be seen. There are eyewear that complement the accessories that you match them with. There are some that are too much.”
While there’s a myriad of options, fashion stylist Altaire Bautista stressed the importance of keeping in mind the event you’re going to—on top of your face shape and personality.
Need tips on how to choose the right frames for your OOTDs? Here are some things to keep in mind.
If you’re going to a formal event…
Gonzales suggests opting for simple, sophisticated metal frames if you’re going to formal events.
For Bautista, it’s good to match formal wear with “something classic but also stylish.” She suggested, “Go for glasses with gold or silver frames to match your accessories of choice.”
If you’re going on vacation….
Vacations are always fun, so it’s only right to choose frames that would give off the same vibe. “Go for big, colorful glasses—and color block them with your outfits,” Bautista said.
Gonzales suggested wearing plastic frames, especially if you’re going to the beach.
If you’re going outdoors…
Going on a hike? Aside from wearing tinted shades as Gonzales suggested, Bautista noted that it’s important to wear something secure. “Make sure to choose glasses that really fit and won’t get in the way with your accessories for the day.”
“The color should match your outfits,” Gonzales added.
If you’re having brunch with friends…
For your brunch-ready outfit, Gonzales suggested pairing it with casual eyewear that fits your personality. “The color and style should depend on your mood,” she said.
Bautista recommended going for black pairs. “They’re chic and simple. Try wayfarers or cat’s eye glasses.”
If you’re going to an event that requires a bold, colorful outfit….
For such, Bautista said you can either opt for the maximalist or the minimalist approach. “Go for different shapes, colorful glasses,” she suggested. “If you want to keep your glasses simple to not take the focus away from your glasses, go for transparent frames, but still with interesting shapes.”
Taking a hint of color from your outfit and wearing that frame color would also help. “For example, your red gown has a gold metallic reflect on the fabric, take that cue and wear gold frames,” explained Gonzales. “As for the style of the frames, it depends on how bold or fun you want your look to be.”
When it comes to buying new frames, Gonzales suggested getting a mirror and trying it on. “See how it looks on you on both sides and front,” she said. “Ask yourself if it looks good on you, and you look better, it means it complements your face.”
“See the magic in wearing different eyewear colors and styles. You never know until you try them on!” she added.
