From unprepared vows to casual outfits: Angel Locsin and Neil Arce reveal details of their intimate wedding
How do newlyweds Angel Locsin and Neil Arce describe their intimate civil wedding? “Simple, pero rock.”
While Angel and Neil didn’t share the exact date of their civil wedding, they revealed in a vlog on Saturday, Aug. 14, that they tied the knot on the same day when Pinay weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz bagged the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medal. They first announced their marriage on Aug. 7.
The Arces’ civil wedding in Taguig City was simple and lowkey. And in the couple’s eyes, it’s just the way they wanted it to be. Here are some of the important details that we missed.
Neil’s proposal
At first, Neil originally planned to propose after the Kapamilya Fiesta World 2019 event in Belgium. However, it was Angel’s dad who suggested that he should propose before her flight.
“Actually in 2019, a week before Father’s Day, pumunta agad ako sa Daddy niya para magpaalam. N’ung tinanong niya ako kung kailan ako magpo-propose, sabi ko ‘Kasi pupunta po si Angel sa Belgium baka after na.’ Sabi niya, ‘Hindi, gawin mo na bago lumipad,’” he said.
Neil also shared that Angel’s dad approved of their engagement, saying “Good!” after he asked his permission.
Postponed schedules
Three weeks after Angel and Neil’s engagement in June 2019, they hired a wedding planner and booked their supposed wedding venue.
The couple was also preparing for a prenup photoshoot in Finland, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They booked another shoot date before their wedding, but it was indefinitely postponed.
Angel and Neil eventually decided to tie the knot through a civil ceremony at the Taguig City Hall. The wedding was presided over by Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano.
“Mukhang ayaw tayo ipa-prenup shoot ah, magpakasal na tayo,” he added.
A secret from their loved ones
Angel and Neil kept their civil wedding a secret to their friends, family, and loved ones until a day before the ceremony.
According to Angel's sister Ella Colmenares, she initially didn’t believe the wedding when she found it out from her sister. But Angel already asked her to prepare fries, milk tea, and street food for their garden reception.
Simple and lowkey
In true Angel and Neil fashion, they kept their ceremony simple and lowkey. They even bought their wedding outfits at a mall.
The couple admitted that they didn't even prepare their wedding vows and rings. As a result, they had to use the rings of Arce’s son and Angel’s engagement ring.
Angel also revealed that it was Neil who took charge of the required paperwork before their civil wedding.
“Kung ano man ang nangyari sa wedding na ‘to, may personal touch talaga namin. It’s very intimate, it’s very simple, it’s very us,” she said.
The film producer shared that they also had to wait in line at the elevators. At that time, Angel was also carrying a box that contained her wedding bouquet.
There were only seven guests at the couple's wedding including actress Dimples Romana, Angel's father Angelo and sister, and Neil's mother and son.
Angel and Neil were supposed to get married on Nov. 8, 2020, but it was postponed due to the pandemic. The couple first confirmed their relationship in 2018.
