Have you ever been shamed over your body?

A lot of women experience this often, be it on the internet or offline. There are times the nasty comments come from their own relatives and close friends. Even celebrities and beauty queens are no stranger to such—and the fact that they’re in the limelight makes it quadruple times harder.

Take inspiration from these famous faces who took no sh*t from body shamers and chose self-love over anything else.

Janella Salvador

After seeing a slew of negative comments about her weight in the comments section of her social media posts, actress Janella Salvador tweeted: “Filipinos are the worst body shamers. Let me enjoy my Christmas pudding in peace. Happy holidays to you too!”

Sharing a photo of herself in a bikini on Instagram, Bea Alonzo looked back at the time she wanted to forget how she hated herself for her size “in other people’s eyes.” The actress has come to love herself—including her so-called flaws—as she came to a powerful realization: “It’s the only body that I am blessed with and I am thankful for my health because I get to do the things that make me happy.”

Catriona Gray

It can be recalled that Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray once got body-shamed by a Thai beauty queen, who posted a meme comparing Catriona’s body with that of Miss Grand International 2018 Clara Sosa. “It is never, ever okay to put someone down for the sake of ‘expressing your opinion,’” she replied to a netizen who asked for her thoughts on online bullying and body-shaming. “With words come power and we should be using those words to build someone up and not pull them down.”

Instead of focusing on her incredible acting talent and philanthropic efforts for various communities, some netizens have been busy criticizing Angel Locsin’s figure. In an interview on talk show Tonight with Boy Abunda, she confidently stressed she doesn’t have a problem with her body. “Ayokong makipag-deal sa mga ganoong klaseng tao kasi sad ang life nila. Ako walang problema, bakit ikaw ang dami mong issue? E katawan ko ‘to, ako ‘to, sarili ko ‘to. E ikaw ba, okay ka ba?”
