There are many things in life worth celebrating, whether big or small, with the power of music.
Recently, streaming service Spotify, known for its user-curated playlists, have seen a surge of vaccine-related celebratory soundtracks created globally aptly named The COVID-19 Vaccine playlist. Since Jan. 1, the streaming service has seen over 7,700 of these playlists created by users all over the world.
In the past 90 days, Spotify has seen a 350% increase in fan-generated playlists specific to the COVID-19 vaccine and playlists named after specific vaccine types like Pfizer and Moderna. (Upon checking, there are no Sinovac playlists yet as of this writing.)
Looking at the songs that users have added in the playlist, most have themes of optimism, excitement and humor.
According to the streaming giant, those frequently added songs include Hit Me With Your Best Shot by Pat Benatar, The Cure by Lady Gaga, Save Your Tears by The Weeknd, Good Days by SZA, and I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) by Whitney Houston.
Also part of the list is Dolly Parton’s iconic hit Jolene, which the country music icon reworked as her vaccine day song with the lyrics “Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine. I’m begging you please don’t hesitate. Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine. ‘Cos once you’re dead, then that’s a bit too late.”
Among the frequently added songs are feel-good songs like Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles and Walking on Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves, Big Shot by Billy Joel, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! by ABBA, and I’m So Excited by The Pointer Sisters.
Spotify was in for the fun and created a new 25-track playlist “to take you from the pre-shot pump up, to the jab itself, to the post-vaccine celebration.”
This new playlist called “Vaccine Songs” includes songs like Shot in the Dark by AC/DC, My Shot from Hamilton, How to Save a Life by The Fray, and Good as Hell by Lizzo.
Spotify also worked alongside the Ad Council and COVID Collaborative to include a link to the Get Vaccine Answers website directly in the playlist.
