Miley Cyrus tells Hilary Duff that she inspired her to audition for 'Hannah Montana'

For Miley Cyrus, knowing Hilary Duff is what dreams are made of.

During the early stages of the pandemic last year, Cyrus invited Duff to join her Instagram talk show called Bright Minded: Live With Miley for a quick conversation.

Cyrus, a big fan of the Lizzie McGuire actor, took this opportunity to reveal her not-so-secret obsession about Duff—one where she ended up bedazzling her things after seeing her in a bedazzled Nashville t-shirt.

Cyrus then continued to share that the reason why she wanted to become an actress was because of Duff and seeing her on Lizzie McGuire.

"And then I flew to L.A., like, almost immediately so I could audition for Disney and I ended up getting the role," she said. "The only reason I wanted it [Hannah Montana] was so I could do whatever you did. And so really, I don’t think I gave a shit about being an actress or a singer," the 28-year-old entertainer added.

Cyrus continued: "I just wanted to copy you no matter what. So I just want to say thank you again for like just inspiring. I would never be sitting here and being able to be alive if it wasn't for you and you kind of showing me how to do that."

Duff reciprocated the sentiment, sharing some thoughtful words about Cyrus and how she is an inspiration to others as well.

"First of all, you're so sweet and I feel like I've known you for such a long time. And just to hear you say that, I feel like you have been such a bright light and you have made so many choices that have been so bold and you’re an inspiration to me and to all of us. And you continue to be," Duff said.

She added: "So I can't even believe what you're saying to me. It's so sweet and so kind, but really I think that I totally look to you for inspiration on how to be cool and what to wear and what you're doing and all of this."

Duff starred as Lizzie McGuire in the titular Disney Channel show from 2001 to 2004.

In 2019, a Lizzie McGuire reboot was confirmed with the show's original cast and creator. However, it was announced in 2020 that the show will not move forward.

Disney spokesperson spoke about the details in an interview with Variety, “Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series,” the Disney spokesperson says. “After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.”
