Wear your Pink Ribbons because it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness month, a time when worldwide initiatives work to raise awareness and fight the disease.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in the Philippines as confirmed by the Department of Health and the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc. At 31.4% of cancer cases, it's also the number one type among Filipino women, according to the World Health Organization. And more alarmingly, our country has the "highest prevalance in Asia, and the ninth highest in the world today," as reported by the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology.

Doctors believe that early detecton of cancer can help decrease the numbers.

That said, the best thing women could do as individuals is to raise public awareness and do a breast self exam regularly. Many brands and organizations are also doing their own initiatives to get involved with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we too, can give back when we shop and donate.

Here, we list down some BCAM-related events and promos happening this month.

Events to catch

Avon #BOOBWatch Summit

One brand that has been a constant supporter of the Pink Ribbon crusade is Avon. Since 1992, Avon has partnered with organizations such as the Philippine Cancer Society, and has helped many breast cancer patients at the Avon-PGH Breast Cancer Clinic. This year, the brand wants to remind us that everyone should keep a #BOOBWatch and start regular breast self-checks.

As part of this initiative, Avon has lined up a series of talks, fundraising concerts, and dance-a-thons on their social media accounts this month of October. Follow their Facebook page for more details.

Pink Yourself Up with FitFlop
