‘I’m a ship and she’s my anchor’: Daniel Padilla reveals tips on having a happy relationship with Kathryn Bernardo
How does Daniel Padilla describe his nine-year relationship with Kathryn Bernardo? “I’m a ship and she’s my anchor. Mahal ko siya at kailangan ko siya.”
The reel to real couple, who’s also celebrating their 10th-year anniversary as a love team, has been lauded by fans for their happy and enduring relationship. Padilla revealed in an interview with TV host Boy Abunda that one of their secrets to a happy relationship is giving your partner their “me-time.”
“I am no expert, I just think she’s the love of my life. I think that’s it. Just give each other time. Like me, kakagaling ko lang ng Boracay. Binigyan niya ako ng time with my friends at saka ng kapatid ko. Ganun lang, bigyan natin ng oras din ‘yung mga sarili natin, huwag natin sakalin ang isa’t isa,” Padilla said.
Padilla shared they also manage to keep the spark alive by traveling together. He admitted that even if they have been together for so long, he’s still often excited to spend time with Bernardo.
“Sa work, kami ang magkasama. After work, kami pa rin ang magkasama. ‘Yung beautiful dito is, I am always excited to see Kathryn,” he added.
The actor also admitted that he sees Bernardo as his anchor in their relationship.
“I’m a ship and she’s my anchor. Kaya ako steady, kasi nandyan ‘yung Kathryn para sa akin. Ganun ‘yung relationship namin. Kailangan ko ‘yung tao na ‘yun. Mahal ko siya at kailangan ko siya.” Padilla admitted.
The couple has faced several challenges too. Padilla didn’t give details, but he said that Bernardo forgave him for a “stupid” mistake.
“Kung sakaling may ganun sa isang relasyon ko, kapag ako ay trinaydor at may ginawang mali, kaya kong patawarin 'yung tao na 'yun… that happened to me before. At si Kathryn pinatawad ako. Nagkamali ako before. I was a kid. I was stupid. And still tinanggap niya ako, tinanggap niya ako ng buo,” he added.
Even if Padilla and Bernardo are more mature as a couple, he admitted that they still have a lot of things to learn before they get married.
“Pagdating ng panahon, siyempre magsasama na talaga kami. Hinahanda na rin namin ‘yung mga sarili namin. Before kami magsama, kailangan muna namin magpakasal. 'Yun ang usapan. At saka siyempre 'yung mga magulang namin, ayaw pa kaming bitawan. We have to learn now,” he said.
