This woman effortlessly 'reached' Mt. Apo summit on a life-size tarpaulin
Mountain climbing is one of the best ways to unwind and connect with nature. However, as fun as the activity may be, it is undeniably challenging, especially for those with health conditions.
This woman from Davao effortlessly "reached" the summit of Mt. Apo—the country’s highest mountain having a height of 2,954 meters—but only through a photo of herself printed on a life-size tarpaulin.
Facebook user Jhoan Lou Paloma uploaded the photos of her hike early this month. The snaps show her on top of the mountain with her friend Viel—plus her friend Ting Ting who is only present through a life-size tarpaulin.
According to Jhoana, her friend asked if she can join them on their climb last April 15. Since it was Jhoana's sixth time climbing Mt. Apo, she knows how challenging the trail is. So, she did not allow her friend to join, especially because she has asthma.
As a workaround, her friend then requested them to bring her tarpaulin and put it up when they have reached the summit.
“She initiated that life size tarp,” Jhoan shared to PhilSTAR L!fe. “[She said] I should bring that tarpaulin to the summit since I did not allow her to be with us,” she continued.
Her friend is seen smiling on the tarpaulin while also wearing a hiking outfit.
Being a mountaineer for about five years, Jhoana shared the perks of mountain climbing.
“Aside from gaining more friends, it is also a great way to take care of ourselves mentally,” she told L!fe, saying that it is one of the best ways to unwind from work.
To make the most out of each mountain-climbing expreience, Jhoana suggests to “make sure that you warm up your muscles and have a nice breakfast before you trek. Be prepared for the weather. Make sure to waterproof your things."
“Bring enough trail foods and water to stay hydrated on the trail. And remember to have fun,” she added.
Gearing for the next hike, Jhoana shared with L!fe that her friend is planning to produce a Sintra board—with a photo of herself again—for them to bring to their next summit.
