Robbery victim mistakes mugging for prank until he gets shot

Published Feb 10, 2026 9:06 pm

A motorcyclist initially thought three assailants were pranking him before they shot and robbed him.

Close to midnight on Thursday, Feb. 5, a man went out to get coffee in General Trias, Cavite. He was by his parked motorcycle on the curb when another motorcycle carrying three men pulled up behind him. The suspects then began forcefully pulling at the victim's keys and bag, as reported by 24 Oras Weekend.

"Nilapitan siya, sabi... 'Akin na 'to, akin na 'to,'" relayed the victim's wife.

Her husband wondered in shock, "'Ano 'to? Prank ba 'to?' Kasi wala namang... 'Holdup 'to.'"

It was then that one of the suspects took out a gun and shot the victim in the hip.

The suspects made off with the victim's bag and motorcycle.

Passersby found the man lying on the ground, writhing in pain from the gunshot wound.

"Wallet, cellphone, lahat ng cards niya, nandu'n, mga ID. Binaril pa siya dito sa singit. Nakatakas na po 'yung mga suspect. Then naglapitan 'yung mga tao," said the victim's wife.

The victim is now recuperating in the hospital after undergoing surgery.

"Napuruhan 'yung pelvic niya. Sira talaga, so kailangan talaga ma-hip replacement," said the wife.

According to General Trias police, CCTV footage showed one of the suspects wearing a white T-shirt and a white helmet. His two companions were wearing jackets. Police is still in the process of identifying the suspects.
