Actor and director Joey Paras passes away at 45
Filipino theater and film actor and director Joey Paras has died on Oct. 29, his family said. He was 45.
Paras’s niece Zciara Shyne Sinchon-Fabian made the announcement in a Facebook post, while the cause of death wasn’t disclosed.
"Unfortunately, his heart wasn't able to recover anymore," Fabian wrote.
She said Paras’s remains are still at the hospital’s morgue and asked the public for help to cover his hospital bills.
“If you wish to donate kindly PM ME,” Fabian said.
Paras took up communication arts at the University of Santo Tomas.
He was part of the theater guild Tanghalang Pilipino and appeared in the musical Zsa Zsa Zaturnah before breaking into the mainstream.
Paras starred in 2009 in the drama comedy Last Supper No. 3, which won that year’s best film at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
He also appeared in movies Sisterakas and Born Beautiful, as well as teleseryes Maging Sino Ka Man and Ikaw Sana. He was also a co-host in Sunday PinaSaya.
Paras directed the film Wala Na Bang Ibang Title? in 2014 and the short Igib in 2020.
In 2018, Paras underwent heart surgery and had a pacemaker, an artificial device implanted underneath the skin to help regulate the heartbeat. He also had COVID-19 in 2020.
