Apple will no longer accept Maya as payment method starting Aug. 16

Heads Up Maya users, you will need to find another mode of payment for your Apple ID purchases as the said digital wallet will no longer be accepted as a payment method.

In an email sent to subscribers, Apple informed customers that this will take effect on August 16. This means that consumers will no longer be able to use Maya to pay for Apple services such as the App Store or iTunes Store.

"If you currently have Maya as a payment method associated with your Apple ID, you may need to take additional actions to continue making purchases," the email read.

"Starting 16 August, if you still have Maya as a payment method, it will be removed from your Apple ID and will no longer be used for digital purchases in the App Store or iTunes Store," it continued.

The company also reminded its users to set an alternative payment method, otherwise, subscriptions will expire.

Meanwhile, Maya released an official statement addressing the issue, saying that users can still use Maya for Apple services by using its physical Maya card or virtual card option, which can be found in the ‘Cards’ section of the Maya app. This means that paying using a Maya mobile number would be unavailable, but Maya’s virtual card option can be applied.

"Our customer can continue to enjoy seamless payments for Apple services with Maya by using a free virtual card that comes with every Maya account or their physical Maya card," the fintech firm told PhilSTAR L!fe.

"To use Maya for Apple services, just change the payment mode from your Maya number to your Maya virtual or physical card number," the statement continued. 

Maya also noted that this announcement is due to some "modifications" they are working on.

"Paying with a Maya mobile number won't be available on the App Store and iTunes Store starting August 16, 2023, while we work on some modifications."
