PH hits another record high of 34,021 new COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) has reported 34,021 new COVID-cases as of Jan. 13, another all-time high since the start of the pandemic.

The latest tally surpasses the previous record of 33,169 new cases recorded on Monday, Jan.10.

The latest count also brings the country's total active cases to a record of 237,387. The DOH said that 98.0% of the positive cases are mild and asymptomatic.

The DOH also recorded another record positivity rate 47.9% of the 78,866 tested on Jan. 11.

Data also shows that 4,694 people have recovered from the virus for a total of 2,802,286 recoveries in the country.

82 individuals have meanwhile succumbed to the virus, bringing the country's total COVID-19 death count to 52,736 or 1.72 % of overall cases.

The Jan. 13 report also shows that 45% of the country's 3,400 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 46% of 20,100 isolation beds, 45% of 13,400 ward beds, and 19% of 3,000 ventilators have been utilized by COVID-19 patients nationwide.

The country has logged 43 confirmed cases of the highly transmissible Omicron variant so far.
