Police sent to Britney Spears' house after she filmed herself dancing with knives
Police officers were sent to check on Britney Spears at her home after the singer filmed herself dancing with knives on her hands, which had social media users concerned about her well-being.
According to CNN International, someone "close to the singer" asked authorities to conduct a wellness check on her after the said video came out.
"Some would argue this is her expressing her creative freedom, and some might argue this is dangerous and there’s a safety issue or mental health concern," Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Captain Dean Worthy said.
According to him, the issue was referred to the sheriff’s office after Spears' associate raised the concern to the Los Angeles Police Department mental health assessment team. A sergeant who "has had multiple prior contacts with Ms. Spears over the course of many years" was then dispatched.
When the officer arrived at the star’s home in Thousand Oaks, California, he explained to the security team that he was there "based on information [Spears] may be experiencing a potential mental health crisis or in danger of self-harm."
Worthy said that Spears' head of security assured the sergeant that there was nothing to be alarmed about. Her attorney also called the officer to confirm that "there were no issues with Ms. Spears mentally, physically, or otherwise."
The singer posted the video on her Instagram account on Sept. 26, where she can be seen wearing nothing but a polka-dot crop top and white underwear. She performs agile dance moves with knives gripped in her hands.
Spears kept the comments section disabled. Even though the knives had a metallic sound when she rubbed them together, she assured her followers that they weren't real.
"I started playing in the kitchen with knives today! Don’t worry they are NOT real knives! Halloween is soon!" the singer wrote in the caption.
This isn't the first time that authorities were dispatched to the pop star's home to do a wellness check. In January this year, the same incident happened when fans were concerned that she could be in danger after she deleted her Instagram account.
She later posted a letter on X (formerly Twitter) asking fans to respect her privacy.
"I love and adore my fans, but this time, things went a little too far and my privacy was invaded. [D]uring this time in my life, I truly hope the public and my fans who I care so much about can respect my privacy moving forward," she wrote.
The pop star has been celebrating her renewed sense of freedom through posts on her social media accounts since the end of her nearly 14-year conservatorship under her father Jamie, which legally allowed him and many others to control her life and estate.
