TRENDING: What is a choppelganger?

Have you seen your own "choppelganger"?

If you’ve ever seen someone who looks like you, you might call them a twin—but what if they resemble you, yet seem like a “downgraded version”? Gen Z and Gen Alpha have apparently coined a term—more of an insult—for someone who looks like another person but is considered a less attractive iteration: choppelganger.

On TikTok, teacher-comedian Philip Lindsay explained the term, sharing that a student had told him that he was the choppelganger of professional football quarterback Kirk Cousins.

"Choppelganger is the melting of two words: We've got doppelganger, which you guys all know is someone who you're not related to but looks just like you, and chopped is the word that kids use to describe something as ugly or undesirable," he explained.

"Choppelganger is the uglier version of the doppelganger. It's the off-brand look-alike," he added.

"If you think you think someone has a choppelganger, keep it to your damn self," a TikTok user quipped.

It's unclear when the term first came about, but one user on X mentioned it as early as May 2025.

"My dyslexic a** read this as 'choppelganger' and I think I just made a word for someone who looks like [you] but very slightly and subtly worse," they wrote.

Meanwhile, social media users have been sharing (or lamenting) which celebrities they were told their choppelganger is, or that they are someone else's choppelganger, like their parents.

"[I]f i hear [I] look like [Gypsy Rose] one more time," another user said.

"[G]ot compared to Joey King the other day and [I'm] still recovering," another one quipped.

"Travis Scott is Asap Rocky’s choppelganger," another one said.

So, who's your choppelganger?
