The heat is here: Summer starts local in Antipolo

PhilSTAR Media Group (PMG) continues its commitment to uplifting Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises through the NakakaLocal initiative. The traveling community marketplace has helped numerous entrepreneurs by providing a platform to showcase their products and share their stories of hard work and perseverance.

To bring its vision to fruition, PMG has collaborated with major partners such as Robinsons Malls and Robinsons Land Corporation. Together, they mounted the 11th leg of the NakakaLocal Bazaar at Robinsons Antipolo, which ran from April 10 to 12, 2026.

In their opening remarks, Babes Adriano, advertising manager at The Philippine Star, and Jing Tiu, NakakaLocal events lead and senior account manager at The Philippine Star, highlight that summer is a time for family, exploration, and connection. They also underscore how choosing to shop local helps Filipino entrepreneurs grow, sustain their businesses, and create meaningful memories.

The Philippine STAR’s Advertising Manager, Babes Adriano, and NakakaLocal Events Lead and Senior Accounts Manager Jing Tiu welcomed guests on opening day.

“By choosing to shop local this summer, you are not just finding something unique—you’re helping Filipino entrepreneurs grow, sustain their businesses, and continue sharing their products with the world,” said Adriano.

“NakakaLocal has always been more than just a bazaar. It’s a growing community that supports your journey…We’ve seen how this platform has helped open doors, create opportunities, and connect you with more customers who believe in the local industry,” Tiu shared, addressing the MSMEs.

Sharon Dioco, provincial director of the Department of Trade and Industry–Rizal, commends NakakaLocal for its unwavering support of Filipino MSMEs and its impact on strengthening local enterprises.

Dr. Corazon S. Laserna, Culture, Arts, and Heritage Division head of the Rizal Provincial Tourism Office, highlights the province’s ongoing efforts to promote its diverse industries, urging everyone to continue nurturing hope, love, peace, and creativity in the hearts of Filipinos—believing these values can inspire lasting change in the world.

Dr. Corazon S. Laserna, Culture, Arts, and Heritage Division Head of the Rizal Provincial Tourism Office, highlighted the province’s efforts in promoting its various industries, alongside her hope that Rizaleños would benefit from the program: “Makikita nila kung paano kayo nagsama-sama para ang pagkakaisa ay maipakita natin—na ito ang daan para tayo ay makarating sa global stage.”

“Let’s continue to plant the seeds of hope, love, peace, and creativity in the hearts of Filipinos so that we can change the world,” she added.

Dr. Reynaldo San Juan Jr., Rizal Government board member, emphasizes how NakakaLocal fosters a dynamic space for entrepreneurs to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another—strengthening not just individual enterprises, but the very foundation of the local economy.

On behalf of Rizal Governor Nina Ricci Ynares, Rizal Government Board Member Dr. Reynaldo San Juan Jr. also addressed the crowd.

“By creating a space where entrepreneurs can connect, collaborate, and learn from one another, NakakaLocal strengthens not just individual businesses but the very foundation of our local economy,” said San Juan Jr.

Irving Wu, external affairs director of Robinsons Malls, expresses his appreciation for MSMEs and partners, noting that they hope the space can be of help to them. He affirms their support for MSMEs, emphasizing that the place and the project are dedicated to their growth and success.

Lastly, Robinsons Malls External Affairs Director Irving Wu also shared his appreciation for the MSMEs and partners: “Sana po, itong lugar namin ay makatulong po. Mabuhay po ang mga MSME. Itong lugar, itong proyektong ito ay para po sa inyo.”

Great local finds
The Flower Maison offers affordable, customized flower bouquets that turn ordinary moments into something special.

Eighteen local brands participated in the 11th leg of the NakakaLocal Bazaar: Corrsy’s Kitchen, Ala Mangga Corner, Nueva C Calamansi, Magpoc’s Pastry Products, Craftcha, Isay Bags, Airoms Leather Craft, Paciencia Handicrafts, The Flower Maison, TBH Cosmetics, Tsokorado, DoughTown Cafe, Chitoes Homemade Product, Kapitan Kamote, Dazzlerati, Wakuchi Charms, Essentially Yours, Rafael, and Biked PH.

Biked PH is a pedal-powered blender bike platform that seamlessly fuses the joy of cycling with the healthy enjoyment of smoothies, cocktails, and salsas.

Raffy Tayaba, owner of Essentially Yours, Rafael and a first-time NakakaLocal participant, shared that the brand’s products “are a safe space for slowing down, reconnecting with oneself, and supporting mental health advocacy.” He joined the program to reach more people and promote their advocacy.

Isay Bags offers high-quality, handcrafted, upcycled, and durable handbags perfect for everyday use. 

Rodileen Cruz, owner of Wakuchi Charms and another first-time NakakaLocal merchant, expressed her excitement about joining the event: “It gives us the opportunity to promote our products and connect with more people. More importantly, we want to highlight our concept of creating a unique and interactive ‘experience’ where customers can express themselves by customizing their own pieces.”

Paciencia Handicrafts is a dedicated manufacturer and wholesaler of authentic Philippine native products, specializing in the intricate art of traditional basketry.

Alyssa Valenzuela, owner of DoughTown Cafe and another first-time exhibitor, joined the event in hopes of boosting brand visibility: “As a small business, we aim to expand our reach beyond our current location and continue growing our presence. This event also opens opportunities for us to connect with fellow entrepreneurs, exchange ideas, and learn from other local brands and their strategies.”

Games and performances

Opening day was filled with fun activities, with guests joining stage games such as Guess the Song, NakakaLocal Pop Quiz, Blend It to Win It, and Tumpakners: Summer-Themed Edition.

WRIVE, a rising P-pop boy group composed of Asi, Drei, Mathew, Russu, and Ishiro, captivates audiences with dynamic performances of their hit tracks, ‘Hakbang,’ ‘Ooh La La,’ and ‘Panaginip Na Lang.’

Filipino artists also made the day extra special with their performances. Singer Shane G performed crowd-favorite tunes, while boy group WRIVE electrified the audience with their high-energy sets.

Shane G, a rising singer-songwriter, enchants audiences with heartfelt lyrics, emotional depth, and a voice that touches and inspires listeners.

The program ended on a high note, with a stronger call to support local goods and entrepreneurs.
