Abby Binay claps back at Nancy Binay's remarks over campaign slogan: 'Stop weaponizing our father'
Senatorial candidate and current Makati City Mayor Abby Binay had a message for her sister incumbent senator and mayoral bet Nancy Binay: "Stop weaponizing our father (Jejomar Binay)."
Abby also responded to her sister's criticism of her campaign slogan, "Abby better."
"She’s using our dad against me," the Makati mayor told the reporters. "Kung gusto talaga niya ng reconciliation, huwag niya isama ang magulang namin."
Abby went on to clarify that she has a good relationship with her dad. She even invited her father to join her campaign.
"[They] refused to bring him," she said.
Asked about if she was holding a grudge against her family, Abby said, "Hindi sa daddy ko. Kasi alam ko given a choice, hindi niya gagawin 'yun. Alam na natin kung kanino. I don't think I don't need to spell it out, basta wala akong sama ng loob sa magulang ko."
This came after Nancy responded to her sister's campaign in a Facebook live on May 7.
"Si Mayora Binay na paulit-ulit niyang sinasabi sa mga entablado nila na nahigitan na daw niya ang serbisyo, ang benepisyo na nabigay ng aming ama. Gusto ko sabihin ni isa sa aming magkakapatid, wala sa amin ang kayang higitan ang serbisyo na binigay ng ating mga magulang," the senator said.
"Hindi ako, kahit si Junjun, at kahit si Mayora Abby, hindi niya kayang higitan yung serbisyo na nabigay nila."
She added that she and Abby aren't opponents in the ballots. "Huwag mong ituring kaaway ang mga magulang natin, hindi na bata ang mga bata ang magulang namin diba? Huwag mong sirain ang relationship mo sa kanila."
Nancy also pointed out that Abby's campaign materials in Makati no longer display their family name "Binay."
"Ang tarpaulins mo nakalagay 'Abby Better' at nakakalungkot kasi nakikita ko sa mata ng ating ama 'yung lungkot at pagtataka bakit nabago na ang apelyido mo dito sa Makati."
"Ang apelyido mo ay Binay, in fact tumatakbo ka bilang senador, ang bitbit mong pangalan sa labas ng Makati ay Binay, hindi better. Walang 'Serbisyong Better' dito sa Makati, 'Serbisyong Binay' lamang,” she continued.
It can be recalled that tensions rose between them after Abby's husband, Luis Campos Jr., ran against Nancy in the mayoral race.
Abby has served as Makati mayor since 2016. She is the fourth Binay and the second female Binay member to govern the city. She was re-elected in 2019 and 2022, where she also defeated her brother Junjun.
Meanwhile, Nancy has served in the Senate since 2013. She was re-elected in the 2019 elections for a second consecutive term.
